Job Type:Seasonal (Fixed Term) (Seasonal)The Maintenance Youth Apprentice gains experience and proficiency by assisting the maintenance teams in troubleshooting, welding, preventative maintenance, repairs, and other maintenance duties as assigned to improve efficiencies, quality, profitability and/or competitiveness. This position learns the various parts of the production process to understand maintenance needs associated with production in a food manufacturing environment.

What you'll be responsible for each day:

  • Perform daily preventive maintenance and/or repair of equipment and systems as trained by maintenance technicians.
  • Gain skills to weld and fabricate a variety of equipment and parts and assist in various welding tasks and projects.
  • Learn to prepare a parts list for ordering and order as required.
  • Help plant production personnel troubleshoot production problems.
  • Gain an understanding of, comply with all Quality Assurance policies, and immediately report any potential food safety issues to management.
  • Learn to troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical equipment.
  • Help install equipment per layout drawings as directed by the Maintenance Technician Lead.
  • Understand and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Safety Protocol
    • Stop any observed unsafe acts and obey facility safety rules and procedures.
    • Correct or report any observed safety hazards.
    • Support safety policies and programs.

The individual who will own this role:

Education Required:

  • Some High School level coursework required.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.

Experience Required:

  • Previous experience in maintenance (school or on-the-job) preferred.
  • Previous experience in welding (school or on-the-job) preferred; specifically welding stainless and making food grade repairs preferred.
  • Experience reading and understanding blueprints preferred.

Skills Required:

  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with colleagues.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy in work.
  • Ability to pay strong attention to detail and multitask effectively.
  • Ability to solve problems by adapting knowledge and experience.
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
  • Basic computer operational skills; able to input and retrieve computerized information.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills, establish priorities, ability to multitask, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good to excellent spelling, grammar, and written communication skills.
  • Exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others and work to maintain constructive working relationships.
