Summary
The Youth Apprentice is responsible for learning basic skills and requirements necessary to become a Service Technician. This is accomplished by assisting with and performing basic tasks in the service shop.
Required Education and/or Experience
High School Junior or Senior and relevant coursework.
Qualifications
All Service Motor Company employees are expected to have a friendly, positive attitude, sense of urgency, and ability to problem solve. The following qualifications are required for this position:
  • Basic Organizational skills.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Basic time management skills.

  • Basic mechanical skills.

  • Ability to see, with or without the use of vision aid devices.

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in the English language.
  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Observes and learns procedures from seasoned service technicians.

  • Assists with basic repairs and set-ups.

  • Perform basic electronic diagnosis of equipment.

  • Assist with preventative maintenance of diesel engines.

  • Assist with preventative maintenance of brake, fuel, electrical, HVAC, Powertrain/Hydrostatic systems, exhaust, and drivetrain systems.

  • Assist with preventative maintenance of steering and suspension, hydraulics, wheels and tires, and equipment frame.

  • Inspect interior and accessory components.

  • Assist with preventative maintenance of exterior lighting systems.

  • Basic maintenance includes oil and filter changes.

  • Washes and details equipment.

  • Operate tools and equipment safely.

  • Review and understand work orders.

  • Look up and acquire parts.

  • Maintains and cleans work areas.

  • Assists with other duties in the shop as requested.

Physical Requirements
This role requires frequent use of hands and fingers to handle tools, controls, and objects while sitting, standing, and bending. Additionally, it involves standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, and occasionally lifting objects weighing up to fifty pounds. These physical demands are standard for effectively carrying out the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities to meet these essential functions.
Work Environment
You'll work in a service setting that involves handling various forms of equipment, enduring loud noises, and adapting to frequent temperature changes. Standard equipment such as wrenches, diagnostic tools, straps. lifts, and workbenches will be regularly utilized.
