Job description

Can you look into the eyes of someone who is struggling and see their pain – while also seeing their potential?  Are you passionate about providing opportunities to help people rebuild their lives?

The Mission is looking to expand our team of committed staff members who are dedicated to creating an environment where those who have nowhere else to turn can live with dignity, experience hope and see new opportunities.

Environmental Services (EVS) Associate

At the Rescue Mission of Trenton, “Environmental Services” is more than a facilities role - it’s a frontline position in protecting health, restoring dignity, and creating a safe place for healing.

The EVS Associate is a key member of our team and a steward of our “Culture of Clean.” In our emergency shelter and behavioral health environment, your work directly supports the well-being, safety, and recovery of every individual who walks through our doors.

This is not just custodial work—it is mission-driven service that helps create stability for people during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.

What You’ll Do
As an EVS Associate, you help maintain a safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment across our campus and care settings. Your responsibilities include:

Infection Prevention & Control

  • Disinfect high-touch surfaces such as doorknobs, railings, and light switches
  • Help prevent the spread of illness in high-density living environments
  • Follow healthcare-grade cleaning and sanitation protocols

Facility Cleaning & Sanitation

  • Clean and maintain resident rooms, bathrooms, and shared spaces
  • Perform deep cleaning and turnover of rooms after resident departure
  • Respond to spills and urgent sanitation needs

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow strict environmental health and safety standards
  • Document cleaning activities to support regulatory inspections
  • Ensure compliance with behavioral health and shelter facility requirements

Light Maintenance & Campus Support

  • Replace light bulbs and report facility repair needs
  • Assist with furniture movement and room preparation
  • Support light outdoor and landscaping tasks across our 150,000+ sq. ft. campus

Culinary & Dining Support

  • Support sanitation of kitchen and food service areas
  • Help maintain cleanliness standards during and after meal service
  • Contribute to safe and sanitary food service operations serving 70+ meals daily

Why This Role Matters
In an emergency shelter and behavioral health setting, cleanliness is not cosmetic—it is clinical.

Your work helps to:

  • Reduce stress and promote emotional stability in moments of crisis
  • Prevent illness outbreaks in high-traffic, shared living environments
  • Reinforce dignity and respect for every person we serve

A clean space communicates a powerful message: you matter, and your well-being matters here.

What We’re Looking For
To succeed in this role, you should bring:
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Commitment to safety and cleanliness standards
  • Ability to follow infection control procedures
  • Familiarity with cleaning chemicals and SDS/MSDS guidelines
  • Emotional resilience and professionalism in a behavioral health environment
  • Team-oriented mindset and reliability

Compensation & Schedule
  • Pay Rate: $17.51/hour
  • Additional Incentive: $1.00/hour bonus (paid quarterly)
  • Schedule: Full-time (32–40 hours/week)
  • Must have weekday and weekend availability

Why Join the Rescue Mission of Trenton?
