PNW Seasonal Worker - Guest and Event Services, Gabis Arboretum
City: Valparaiso
Job Description:
Job Summary
Gabis Arboretum is seeking enthusiastic, reliable, and service-oriented individuals to join our seasonal Guest and Event Services team. This role supports daily visitor operations and special events while helping create a welcoming and enjoyable experience for all guests.
Seasonal Workers may assist with visitor services, cashiering, event setup and breakdown, and general reception and facility support.

Pay:
  • $13.00/hour

Schedule:
  • Schedules are flexible and based on business needs
  • Weekends are required

Position duration:
  • April 20, 2026 - October 31, 2026

Duties and Responsibilities
Facilities & Site Support
  • Perform general custodial duties in the Gatehouse and Depot, which include light cleaning and stocking of restrooms, wiping down visitor tables, emptying trash, etc.
  • Assist with setting up and breaking down for events, public programs, classes, and meetings held in the Depot
  • Support end-of-day closing procedures for the Depot and Railway Garden

Event Support
  • Assist with on-site support for concerts, facility rentals, weddings, birthday parties, and other special events

Cashiering & Visitor Services
  • Staff the gatehouse to provide admission kiosk support
  • Staff the Depot to greet visitors and provide excellent customer service
  • Process payments for admission, memberships, classes, events, and merchandise
  • Perform general office and reception duties, including answering phones, responding to inquiries, and basic data entry
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education
  • High School Diploma/GED preferred

Experience
Training will be provided but the most successful candidates will have a combination of experience and skills in the following areas:
  • Previous experience in cashiering, visitor services, or customer service
  • Ability to work independently and stay self-motivated
  • Comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills; ability to interact positively with guests of all ages
  • A positive, team-oriented attitude and willingness to assist as needed
  • Willing to work most weekends and occasional evenings for special events
