Position Summary
The Enterprise Architect is responsible for understanding the company's key business objectives, evolving technology strategy and architecting enterprise wide solutions. The EA provides oversight to various geographical distributed teams and organizational leadership in all areas of technology. The EA will serve as a technical advisor and subject matter expert on the effective use of technology in developing business solutions that meet the needs of clients and customers. While the EA will have experience in multiple architecture domains, application architecture, and specifically, eCommerce / Web to print based solutions will be a key focus area for this role.
Education & Knowledge Required
• Four-year degree in Computer Science or related field with proven business acumen
• Working knowledge of EA Frameworks (Zachman, TOGAF, Gartner EA, etc)
• Solid understanding of Enterprise Patterns (Applications and Integration) and Objected Oriented Analysis and Design / Development
Experience / Skills / Abilities Required
• 8-10 years in Information Technology disciplines with 4-5 years' experience in architecting enterprise solutions
• Self-starter requiring minimal to no direct supervision
• Proven track record of implementing and actively managing fundamental architectural frameworks, methodologies and architectures
• Proven ability to understand business objectives and translate into both conceptual architecture and project level deliverables
• Professional and strong communication skills.
Communicates appropriately to audiences verbally and in writing; keeps people informed; adapts communication style to the needs of the audience
• Ability to analyze business operations and processes to understand their relationships, and drive business process optimization
• Experience with large-scale high-volume application design, development and deployment for supply chain, B2B, and B2C operations
• Implementation experience with enterprise level clustering, load balancing, fail-over, scalability and performance tuning
• Detailed knowledge in B2B and B2C eCommerce, with expertise in at least 1 major eCommerce Framework (Oracle ATG, Websphere Commerce or related)
• Detailed knowledge of J2EE and .NET Platforms
• Detailed knowledge of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Enterprise Service Bus (ESB)
• Experience designing and developing EDI solutions including translation, mapping and integration
• Integration experience with large scale enterprise applications (examples: SAP, Oracle or Related as well as EAI frameworks like Web Methods)
• Database (DB2, Oracle and SQL Server) product knowledge including transaction management, SQL programming, schema design and JDBC
• Experience with XmPie, Adobe Indesign Server or related Composition Engines is highly desired
Key Duties / Responsibilities
• Serves as technology lead and liaison to the business in developing and linking technical solutions to company requirements, goals, objectives, with emphasis on driving to an Enterprise technical strategy and achieving a positive ROI
• Technical advisor and subject matter expert on the effective use of technology in developing business solutions that meet the needs of clients and customers.
• Consults with the core processes and business units of the Company on effective approaches to interfacing/integrating with client technology systems
• Defines and documents technical environment and deployment methodologies to enable integrated solutions.
• Advises IT and other business processes regarding the feasibility of proposed approaches to project solutions in terms of systems capabilities and established technology architecture guidelines
• Leads research and development, as well as proof of concepts for solving business problems or concepts not addressed by existing technology stacks.
• Participates in establishing standards and best practices in deploying technology solutions.
• Assists in developing and managing the established technology architecture governance process.
• Endeavors to minimize component complexity in the design and deployment of the enterprise technology architecture through standards-based product(s) selection and implementation
• Ensures uniformity across IT systems infrastructure to enable effective application integration capabilities.
• Champions enterprise-wide compliance with established technology standards.
• Champions the deployment of enterprise-wide systems management processes and techniques.
• Champions' enterprise-wide technology re-uses and service management practices.
• Proactively identifies and participates in the implementation of improvement opportunities across Technology Services sub-processes
• Keeps abreast of technological changes and advancements; identifies opportunities to apply technology for competitive advantage
• Mentors staff employees on capabilities and application of emerging technologies.
• Prepares documentation on proposed and developed technical solutions. Makes presentations of same as required to IT, Business, Executive, and Client Management
• Participates in client discussions and collaboration around identifying technical solutions to drive business goals and objectives. Serves as technical contact for enterprise support, as needed
• Performs full cycle management of technology/business projects as required.
• Develops technology plans and ensures appropriate project documentation.
• Assesses core technical and resource requirements to support assigned projects.
• Leads the engineering teams during implementation in defining the solution architecture and high level design on key company projects.
• Directs technical staff participation to ensure deliverables are met where appropriate.
• Provides personal performance assessments on project team members as required
Communication & Contacts Required
• Constant contact with internal employees and management at all levels concerning technology architecture design and deployment.
