Position Overview

The Heavy Civil Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all phases of construction operations, including planning, scheduling, staffing, and execution. This role requires strong leadership, deep field expertise, and the ability to manage multiple moving parts while maintaining safety, quality, and productivity standards.


Key Responsibilities

Project & Field Operations

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage all aspects of excavation, earthwork, and underground utility projects
  • Ensure all materials, equipment, subcontractors, and resources are scheduled and available
  • Read and interpret plans, specifications, and soil reports to guide field execution
  • Coordinate permits, inspections, utility locates, traffic control, and temporary services
  • Monitor job progress, productivity, and costs, making real-time adjustments to stay on schedule and within budget
  • Oversee site mobilization at project start and efficient closeout upon completion
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and reporting

Leadership & Team Management

  • Directly supervise foremen, operators, and laborers
  • Lead hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management
  • Set clear expectations and maintain accountability for safety, quality, and productivity
  • Ensure proper staffing levels and efficient crew scheduling
  • Promote a strong safety culture and enforce all safety protocols

Client & Stakeholder Relations
