We are seeking a passionate, sharp, and adaptable Discord Community Manager to join our marketing team and build active communities across our entertainment and gaming clients. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Community & Social Strategy, you will define how we engage with fans and players across community channels, making sure members feel heard, rewarded, and connected to the worlds they love. You will work across multiple clients and platforms simultaneously, so the ability to adapt tone, manage priorities, and stay organized under pressure is essential.

This is an hourly freelance position, with flexible hours including evenings and weekends during active campaign windows and live events.

Requirements

  • Community Strategy & Operations: Lead community engagement planning and execution across key platforms for entertainment and gaming clients, developing voice, tone, and moderation standards for each community.
  • Community Building & Onboarding: Build positive, inclusive community spaces that reflect each brand and IP authentically, and manage onboarding flows so new members have a clear and welcoming entry into each community.
  • Moderation & Crisis Handling: Enforce community guidelines and handle sensitive or escalating situations with empathy and professionalism.
  • Content & Copywriting: Draft and publish community updates, event announcements, campaign messaging, and known-issue communications. Adapt your writing across different IPs, audiences, and platforms while maintaining a consistent brand-conscious voice.
  • Cross-Platform Strategy: Support content strategy across Discord, Reddit, TikTok, Instagram, Roblox, and other relevant channels. Collaborate with campaign and creative teams on polls, UGC prompts, contests, and activations.
  • Community Insights & Reporting: Monitor community sentiment and engagement trends across platforms, surface recurring themes to leadership, and provide weekly qualitative and quantitative reporting on community health, growth, and campaign performance.
  • Event & Activation Support: Coordinate campaign activations including Discord Stage events, Reddit AMAs, in-game activations, livestream coordination, giveaways, scavenger hunts, and live programming.
  • Reward & Prize Management: Manage prize distribution, reward tracking, and winner communications across active campaigns.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with creative, development, and strategy teams to align messaging and support client objectives. Serve as the voice of the community internally, bringing member sentiment and fan behavior into campaign planning.
  • Relationship Building: Build and maintain relationships with active community members, moderators, and brand advocates across client servers.
Qualifications
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in community management, social media management, player engagement, or a related role.
  • Multi-Platform Community Management: Demonstrated experience managing online communities across platforms such as Discord, Reddit, or major social channels.
  • Discord Expertise: Solid understanding of Discord including server structure, moderation tools, role systems, bots, and community best practices.
  • Gaming Community Knowledge: Strong knowledge of gaming communities and player behavior across platforms including Roblox, Fortnite, and other major gaming ecosystems.
  • Adaptive Writing: Exceptional written communication skills with the ability to write in different voices and tones for different brands and audiences.
  • Verbal Communication: Strong verbal and oral communication skills with comfort presenting in team settings and community-facing events.
  • Sentiment Analysis: Proven ability to monitor community sentiment and translate player feedback into actionable insights.
  • Multi-Client Operations: Ability to manage multiple client communities and campaign timelines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexible Availability: Comfortable working flexible hours including evenings and weekends during active campaign windows and live events.
  • Culture Passion: Genuine passion for gaming and entertainment culture and a deep understanding of what drives fan communities.

Nice To Have's
  • Experience with UGC Gaming platforms, including Roblox and Fortnite
  • Experience managing Reddit communities or subreddits alongside other platform operations
  • Hands on experience with Discord bot platforms such as MEE6, Carl-bot, Arcane, or custom bot infrastructure
  • Experience supporting interactive campaigns, ARGs, or puzzle-based fan activations
