The Web Services Manager is responsible for leading the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of SecureCom Wireless APIs and web services. This role provides both technical and people leadership for a team of software developers, ensuring scalable, secure, and high-quality software solutions that support business objectives and customer needs.

The Web Services Manager serves as a technical subject matter expert in Ruby on Rails development while maintaining active involvement in software design, coding, testing, and implementation. This position partners closely with cross-functional teams to drive innovation, improve development processes, ensure timely project delivery, and maintain high standards of performance, reliability, and security across all web service platforms.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of software development experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing applications and services using Ruby on Rails.
  • Previous supervisory, team lead, or management experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of API development, web services architecture, software development methodologies, and application security best practices.
  • Proven ability to manage priorities, allocate resources, delegate work, and meet project deadlines.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead and continuously improve the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of APIs and web services supporting SecureCom Wireless products and applications.
  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert for Ruby on Rails development and related technologies while remaining actively involved in software development activities.
  • Develop and execute departmental goals, priorities, and project plans that align with organizational objectives and customer requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to software development team members in the areas of architecture, design, coding standards, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Assign projects and tasks through Jira, establish schedules and deadlines, monitor progress, and ensure timely completion of deliverables.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product management, quality assurance, technical support, and other departments to ensure efficient execution of projects and alignment of business objectives.
  • Ensure software solutions are scalable, maintainable, secure, and free from defects while meeting customer expectations for performance and reliability.
  • Manage department resources, workload planning, and budget objectives to maximize efficiency and productivity.
  • Prepare and present regular reports to the Director of Software regarding project status, team performance, risks, resource allocation, and strategic initiatives.
  • Participate in the recruitment, hiring, development, performance management, and retention of team members in partnership with Human Resources.
  • Manage third-party vendors, contractors, and external service providers as necessary to support departmental objectives.
  • Evaluate existing development processes, tools, and technologies and implement improvements that enhance efficiency, quality, scalability, and team effectiveness.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, emerging technologies, security requirements, and development best practices to ensure modern and effective solutions.
  • Observe and adhere to DMP Data Classification Standards.
  • Observe company policies and continuously seek opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce cycle time, eliminate waste, and increase customer satisfaction while maintaining compliance with requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Job duties are subject to change as directed by the needs of the organization.
