Web Server Specialist
Intermediate Level (2-4 Years Experience)
Location: DMV Area (Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia)
Work Type: Full-Time | On-site or Hybrid (based on contract requirements)
Overview
Navteca is seeking a skilled Web Server Specialist to support the installation, configuration, maintenance, and ongoing management of web and application server environments. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Microsoft-based web platforms and modern cloud technologies, along with a strong understanding of web infrastructure, security, and performance optimization.
This role supports enterprise environments aligned with Fairfax County standards, with a focus on reliability, scalability, and secure operations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Install, configure, manage, and maintain web servers and application servers
  • Provide technical support for web-based platforms and hosted applications
  • Administer and support Microsoft IIS and ASP.NET environments
  • Monitor system performance and ensure high availability of web services
  • Implement security controls, including user access management, encryption, and certificate management
  • Troubleshoot and resolve server, application, and connectivity issues
  • Support cloud-based web infrastructure across Azure and AWS environments
  • Assist with deployment automation using DevOps and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools
  • Collaborate with development teams to support application deployments and integrations
  • Ensure compliance with Fairfax County standards and best practices

Required Skills & Technologies
  • Web Technologies: HTML5, CSS3, XML
  • Microsoft Stack: .NET 5+, ASP.NET, C#, Visual Studio
  • Web Servers: Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS)
  • Cloud Platforms: Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS) (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS)
  • DevOps Tools: Git, Docker, Kubernetes
  • Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, Ansible
  • Security: User access controls, encryption, certificate management
  • Networking fundamentals and Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA)

Preferred:
  • Experience with API development and Windows Communication Foundation (WCF)

Qualifications
  • 2-4 years of experience in web server administration or related field
  • Experience supporting Windows-based web environments
  • Familiarity with cloud-hosted applications and hybrid environments
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Work Location & Schedule
  • On-site or hybrid depending on contract requirements
  • Primary location: Fairfax County Government Center
    12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, VA 22035
  • Standard hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (30-minute lunch)
  • May require participation in an on-call rotation
  • Must adhere to Fairfax County and/or FCPS holiday and inclement weather policies

Additional Requirements
  • Ability to work on-site at County or approved offsite locations as needed
  • Time worked outside approved hours is not billable
  • Timesheets must be submitted for all work performed
  • Staff may not perform work for other clients during assigned County hours
