Job description

The Role
As a Lead Infrastructure Engineer at Pipe, you will support the growth and maintenance of our cloud infrastructure - including GCP, Kubernetes, Postgres, and Pulumi. Your work will set the foundations that enable fast, autonomous work across every engineering team. You will collaborate with our Backend Engineering, Security, Data, and IT teams to ensure our infrastructure is reliable, scalable, and secure.
The infrastructure team is a core part of the software engineering org. Our infrastructure is defined as code and has a hand in the stability of every codebase at Pipe. This is a small, dedicated team - success here requires problem-solving with a technically diverse mindset.
Responsibilities
  • Design and implement scalable, reliable cloud infrastructure solutions for business-critical applications and services
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure infrastructure meets their requirements and is easy to use
  • Maintain a strong security posture through close collaboration with the security team to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations
  • Monitor and troubleshoot infrastructure issues and drive timely resolution
  • Automate infrastructure deployment and management processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual work
  • Participate in on-call rotation to support critical infrastructure issues

Tech Stack
We are committed to using the right tools for the problems we are trying to solve. We are not dogmatic, but our current stack includes:
  • Frontend: Typescript, React, Next.js
  • Backend: Go, PostgreSQL, BigQuery
  • Data: BigQuery, Sqlmesh, Python
  • Infrastructure: Kubernetes, Pulumi, Buildkite, Google Cloud Platform

Our stack reflects the tools we've found most effective for the problems we solve. Strong candidates will have hands-on experience with most of these technologies and the technical range to pick up what's new quickly.
Technical Qualifications
A strong candidate for this role is a skilled programmer who can provision and debug disparate systems regardless of initial familiarity. We do not require a specific tenure with any technology, but we expect enough proficiency to explore and use them independently:
  • Cloud Infrastructure - GCP preferred; AWS or Azure experience is transferable
  • Infrastructure as Code
  • Kubernetes
  • Python
  • CI/CD system management
  • Observability systems - Datadog and/or OpenTelemetry preferred
  • TypeScript and/or Golang - beneficial but less critical

You will be successful at Pipe if you:
  • Want to join a remote-first startup and make a real impact
  • Hold yourself and your teammates to high standards
  • Have a strong technical foundation and use your skills to help customers succeed
  • Take end-to-end ownership of your work and enjoy collaborating across functions

Compensation and Benefits
We are a fully remote company and we believe in taking care of our employees. As a Pipe employee, you'll receive:
  • The best equipment to help you do your job
  • Flexible vacation and work hours - we believe in a healthy work-life balance (really!)
  • Excellent health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Generous parental leave for anyone growing their family, regardless of gender
  • Great colleagues - we value a culture of authenticity, humility, and excellence

The annual US base salary range for this role is $150,000-$220,000, narrowed during the interview process based on experience, qualifications, and location.
