Job description

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District is located in south-central British Columbia, with dozens rural and urban communities spread across 44,300 square kilometres. The TNRD provides more than 120 local government services to approximately 144,000 people in 10 Electoral Areas, 11 member municipalities, and 25 First Nations. The TNRD is headquartered in the City of Kamloops, the largest community within the regional district.

The Thompson-Nicola region has a vast range of climates that experience true four-season weather, with plenty of year-round sunshine, little rain, and warm summers. Residents generally have short commutes, easy access to recreation and the outdoors, and a high quality of life. The TNRD acknowledges that we are located within the unceded, ancestral lands of the Nlaka'pumux, Secwepemc, St'at'imc, and Syilx Nations.

The Role: The TNRD is seeking a temporary, full-time Web Developer I. Reporting to the Technology Services Supervisor, the Web Developer I is responsible for supporting the development, maintenance, and enhancement of web-based applications, databases, integrations, and related systems. Working under the direction of the Technology Services Supervisor, this role collaborates with stakeholders to meet information needs, support reliable digital services, and contribute to integration work connected to Microsoft Business Central, UKG, SharePoint, Power BI, Power Automate, APIs, AI enabled tools, and related business systems.

Key Responsibilities: Design, develop, implement, and maintain web applications, internal/external websites, and databases. Maintain and develop APIs and support cloud infrastructure as required. Support integration, reporting, automation, and data movement activities connected to Microsoft Business Central, UKG, and related enterprise business systems.

Maintain and improve Microsoft SharePoint resources, including lists, libraries, pages, permissions, and department solutions where required. Assist with Power BI reporting, Power Automate workflows, API troubleshooting, and process improvement activities that support ERP and workforce management implementation work. Support AI enabled business process improvement, and chatbot style solutions where they can improve staff productivity, information access, or integration workflows.

Migrate and integrate data from legacy systems into current platforms. Perform database tasks including creation, updates, indexing, queries, and error correction. Provide technical support, training, and guidance to staff on applications and systems.

Document system functionality and development processes. This in-office position is based out of vibrant TNRD Civic Building which also houses the Kamloops Downtown Library, the Kamloops Art Gallery and a busy cafe. This one-year temporary position will backfill and support the permanent Web Developer I.Required Education and Experience: A recognized degree or diploma relating to computer sciences, web development or a related area Demonstrated experience developing, maintaining, or supporting integrations, APIs, reporting tools, workflow automation, or business system solutions is preferred

Ideally two years of programming experience An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered Required Skills and Abilities: Well versed in PHP, CSS, HTML and a strong understanding of JavaScript and Node.js Ability to design, develop, test, implement data collection systems and RESTful API solutions for existing programs Strong understanding of Microsoft SharePoint, including site structure, lists, libraries, permissions, pages, and document-based collaboration. Ability to support Power BI reports, dashboards, data models, operational reporting, and data visualization needs. Ability to develop, maintain, troubleshoot, or support Power Automate workflows and other business process automation solutions

Ability to design, test, document, and troubleshoot APIs and integrations between internal systems, external services, cloud platforms, Microsoft Business Central, and UKG. Ability to analyze business requirements, translate user needs into practical technical solutions, and communicate integration options clearly to staff, vendors, consultants, and implementation partners. Ability to support Microsoft Copilot, AI enabled tools, chatbot style solutions, and related integrations in a secure, practical, and service focused manner.

Ability to work effectively on your own and within a team environment. A keen eye for design and a strong interest towards UX\UI Understanding of Functional and Object-Oriented Programming Methodologies Ability to document, implement and visualize Relational Data Structures Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal and organizational skills Ability to carry out related testing and debugging tasks by reviewing and analyzing systems post-implementation This position requires a clear Criminal Record Check and a valid Class 5 Driver's License. The position is subject to the provisions of the Collective Agreement with the BC General Employees' Union, Local 705.

The Web Developer I is a Pay Grid Level ITS position which is $45.11/hr - $49.97/hr (2025 rates). Non-benefitted staff receive 18.2%-21.2% in lieu of annual vacation, statutory holidays, sick leave, and benefits as per Article 25.8. Applications must include a cover letter and resume outlining your qualifications and experience
