What is a web developer co op?

Web Developer Co-ops are temporary, paid positions for students or recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in web development as part of their academic program. Co-op participants work alongside professional developers, contributing to real projects and learning about front-end and back-end technologies, coding best practices, and teamwork in a professional setting. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, creative, curious, and enjoys working in a collaborative engineering environment.

Through this Co-op experience, students will gain exposure to software development best practices, cloud application architecture, debugging and troubleshooting techniques, testing and automation processes, and collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

With guidance from a dedicated mentor, perform the following tasks with increasing responsibility and independence throughout the Co-op experience:

  • Contribute to well-defined projects supporting the XiO Cloud platform.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining RESTful API endpoints using C# and ASP.NET Core.
  • Collaborate with engineers to build responsive and accessible user interface components within the Angular-based single-page application.
  • Support backend data services that manage device state and configuration data.
  • Assist in integrating frontend and backend layers to support new product features.
  • Participate in software testing, debugging, and maintenance activities.
  • Assist in developing and executing unit and integration tests to support software quality and reliability.
  • Participate in code reviews, Agile ceremonies, team discussions, and technical design conversations.
  • Document technical findings, implementation details, and test results to support team knowledge sharing.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Coursework, project experience, or familiarity with C# and the .NET platform.
  • Familiarity with a modern SPA framework such as Angular, React, or Vue.
  • Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and TypeScript.
  • Exposure to relational or NoSQL databases and basic querying.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of asynchronous programming concepts (e.g., async/await).
  • Exposure to RESTful API development and client-server application architecture.
  • Interest in cloud-based applications and full-stack web development.
