Purpose
Under the general direction of the Marketing and Communications Manager, the Marketing and Communications Specialist will support a range of planning and implementation of marketing and communications functions for Spokane Airports, including Spokane International Airport, Felts Field, the Airport Business Park and the Rail-Truck Transload Center. This role will focus heavily on digital content creation, visual storytelling and event coordination to support the Airport's marketing, communications and air service development functions. These functions include but are not limited to brand promotion and engagement, social media and website management, graphic design, photo/video editing, community engagement, and vendor coordination. This position requires employee to work some nights, early mornings and weekends for special events.
Major Responsibilities
  • Social Media:
    • Promote Spokane Airports' presence on social media, including the creation and posting of engaging content.
    • Respond to social media posts and answer requests for information. Advise supervisor and other departments of concerns and questions brought by the public.
    • Research and apply new and current social media trends.
    • Assist with management of placed media during campaigns.
  • Email Marketing:
    • Lead creation of Airport's email marketing function.
    • Manage email distribution list(s).
  • Photography, videography and graphic design:
    • Take and edit photos of events, aircraft and airport happenings.
    • Produce and design graphics for both digital and print materials, including flyers, billboards, brochures, web content, digital ads, and social media graphics.
    • Assists in development of airport signage and banners.
    • Liaise with Airport's photography and videography vendor(s) to coordinate and supervise airport photoshoots.
  • Event planning:
    • Support the planning and implementation of events ranging from large-scale community events to smaller in-terminal activities. These may include but are not limited to open houses, grand openings, tours, inaugural flights, industry conferences and networking events.
    • Serve as primary vendor contact for event planning and set-up.
  • Community Relations & Partnerships:
    • Coordinate and facilitate outreach efforts, including educational tours and external community engagement opportunities.
    • Design Airport branded apparel, merchandise and swag, and collaborate with vendors.
    • Vet and answer sponsorship requests.
    • Represent the Airport at various community events, networking opportunities, and industry conferences.
  • Other duties:
    • Anticipate and meet the needs of internal and external customers. Work collaboratively with other Airport departments, external stakeholders, and community partners on projects, events, and communication needs.
    • Write and edit materials for diverse channels and audiences, including social media posts, website posts, newsletters, and media briefs.
    • Identify, recommend and develop marketing tactics to support Airport's communications needs and goals.
    • Track, analyze, and provide reports on performance metrics for various communications channels.
    • Administer and complete Airport website needs; serve as primary contact for website vendor.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Marketing Specialist should be a well-rounded communications professional with a range of strategic storytelling experience. Ideal candidates are independent and highly creative self-starters who demonstrate strong writing and excellent interpersonal skills. Successful applicant thrives in dynamic, fast-paced environments and has demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, inter-departmental colleagues, contractors, vendors and community organizations. Previous public-sector, customer relations and/or airport experience will be helpful.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 2-5 years of related marketing, communications and/or customer relations experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, marketing, communications, or related field.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered in meeting the minimum requirements for this position.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license, free of serious or frequent traffic violations.

Security/Safety:

Physical Requirements:
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push and pull objects up to 30 pounds.
  • Job functions require sitting for extended periods; standing and walking frequently; and occasionally stooping, kneeling, bending, lifting, carrying, and reaching.
  • Extensive wrist and hand movements required for frequent keyboarding and use of office equipment.
  • Ability to perform close work to read and use computer required.
  • Ability to continuously exchange information through listening and talking with customers, coworkers, representatives of community organizations and other individuals required.

Working Contacts:

Working Conditions:
  • Work is primarily in an office setting with minimal exposure to weather elements. Some duties may require work around the Airport and airfield in support of Airport events, and off Airport property in the community on a regular basis.
Equipment Operation Required:
  • Vehicle, personal computer, phones, copier, and other office equipment.

Spokane Airport provides a generous benefit package. Currently, we cover employee at 100% and dependents at 90% of the premium cost. We offer four plan choices for medical coverage (includes vision) through Kaiser Permanente. The Airport contributes to a Health Savings Account (HSA) for high deductible plans and a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) for the other plans. Dental coverage is through MetLife. Additionally, the Airport provides life insurance at two times the annual salary. Optional life insurance is also available. Short term and long term disability is also provided by the Airport. Retirement is through the Washington State Department of Retirement System - PERS Plan. The Airport provides an employee assistance program through BHO, and an employee wellness program. Parking is provided.
The Airport recognizes 11 holidays. Vacation is earned at eight (8) hours a month for the first five (5) years and increases every five (5) years. Sick leave accrues at eight (8) hours a month. The Airport also provides military and jury leave.
