The Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board is recruiting for a Career Executive Assignment, Level B, Assistant Executive Officer (AEO). The Executive Officer is searching for a candidate with proven leadership abilities and a strong work ethic, prepared to address diverse and complex water quality challenges in the Central Valley. The position is located at 11020 Sun Center Drive in Rancho Cordova.
The Executive Officer and the AEOs from the Rancho Cordova, Fresno, and Redding offices function as the Board's executive management team and develop strategic priorities in collaboration with the Board itself. The position requires extensive stakeholder and inter- and intragovernmental engagement and coordination. The AEO is responsible for the supervision of three technical sections. The AEO also acts as Executive Sponsor for three (3) to six (6) of the Board's nineteen (19) water quality programs, which involves consultation on the development of programmatic annual workplans guiding staff work across all three offices. The AEO acts as representative of the Board on committees, workgroups, and in various forums, at public meetings of elected and appointed boards and commission from the various counties, cities, special districts, and other agencies, and in interviews with news media.

Working Conditions

Salary Information - CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, ยง 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience. E mployees appointed to the Attorney or Water Resource Control Engineer classification will receive Recruitment Higher Above Minimum (HAM) rate in accordance with the approved Civil Service Pay Scales.
In addition, note: Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee's monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced and will accrue hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period in accordance with the applicable bargaining contract. The salary range(s) included on this job posting do not reflect the reduction in pay.
