Job description

The Water Operator I is responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the Municipal Water System on an assigned shift basis.
Work is performed under the direction of the supervisor in charge.Essential Functions
  • Operates, services, maintains and checks equipment, instruments, pumps, valves;
  • Takes readings of pressures, volumes, weights, levels, flows and other data, and records them on log sheets;
  • Makes routine water quality tests;
  • Performs maintenance on Water Division equipment, pumps, pipes, vehicles, buildings, structures and grounds;
  • Collects samples, performs simple analysis, and records results;
  • Installs, repairs, and inspects water lines, valves, pumps;
  • Responds to calls and concerns from the public;
  • Installs, reads, and repairs water meters;
  • Locates and marks water lines;
  • Performs after hours "on call" duties for the Department. Remains within a 1-hour response time while "on call";
  • Assists in various duties, shifts and functions of the Water Division operations;
  • Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time.
Licenses and Other Requirements
  • Idaho Class "B or Higher" Commercial Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within six months of employment;
  • Class I Water Distribution License or the ability to obtain one within 1 year of employment;
  • Applicants must be able to pass a background check and drug testing.
