Job description

1. Promote a safe, cooperative and professional health care environment to ensure optimum patient care (as per HR Policy 113c).

2. Adheres to all hospital policies, procedures, rules and regulations, including but not limited to, absenteeism, ETIME, cellular telephone usage, dress code and rules of conduct.

3. Makes Customer Service a priority, treating customers (patients, visitors, and co-workers) in a professional manner exercising courtesy and tact. Effectively communicates with patients and others about SBH services in their area(s) of expertise or responsibility and ensures that concerns, questions or issues reach the right person(s) in SBH in a timely fashion.

4. Assigns duties to personnel on shift, receives reports from them of deficiencies in plant operation as well as responding to maintenance requests.

5. Operates and maintains in good repair engines, air compressors, generators, motors, pumps, air conditioning machines, electrical, plumbing heating and other related equipment and systems. Operates and maintains sources of light, heat and power. Controls operation of auxiliary boiler equipment such as water pumps and soot blowers. Inspects machinery and makes regular rounds to assure early detection of malfunctions. Operates stationary diesel engine when emergency power supply is needed, operates steam generating plant.

6. Keeps record and does p.m. procedures in plant, records details of equipment in service, noting such things as temperatures, flow consumption, pressures, water levels, alarm conditions, etc.

7. Takes general charge of plant operations on evening, night and weekend shift, makes emergency decisions to deal with fire, water line breaks, etc. until supervision arrives.

8. Acts in emergencies as part of Fire Brigade.

9. Oversees building and plant operations pertaining to all equipment and utility services or functions related to the physical plant operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Education Required - High School Graduate with courses in power plant operation including electrical generation.
  2. License(s) Required - NYC license as Stationary Engineer and NYC Refrigeration License. NYC Certificate of Fitness A-35, P-98, S-12, S-13, S-95. CFC Universal Technician and DEC Operator B/C Certification preferred.
  3. Experience/Skills Required - Five (5) years as boiler room Fireman, oiler, or other similar position, to obtain Stationary Engineer license. One (1) year as Watch Engineer in High Pressure Boiler Plant.
