Job description

Introduction
West Chester Borough is a thriving community with a population of 20,000+ located in the center of Chester County PA. It is the seat of County government and home to West Chester University.
The two locations that service the West Chester Borough (Goose Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant and Taylor Run Wastewater Treatment Plant) are hiring a Wastewater Operator/Trainee. Applicants will have a high school diploma or GED, and a PA-DEP mandated operator's certification license. An applicant without a PA-DEP operator's license will be given the opportunity to earn the required license. The starting salary without the license is $21.83 per hour. Once a license is earned, the rate of pay is $22.83 per hour. Salary rates for licensed operators will be evaluated and negotiated based on experience. The incumbent will be a team player and work with others at Goose Creek to create a culture of constant improvement.

Duties
1. Perform daily collection of samples and inspections of the plant and equipment.
2. Monitor and record data, meter readings, and chemical residuals and adjust for proper equipment operation.
3. Operate and perform maintenance on pumps, motors, gear boxes, clarifier drives, and other prime movers.
4. Perform housekeeping duties, including building maintenance, grass cutting and weeding.
5. Follow verbal and written instructions and notify Maintenance Foreman and Plant Superintendent of equipment issues.
6. Perform other duties, as assigned.
Schedule
During Training: Monday -Friday 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM (3-4 weeks)
After Training:
Week #1 = Tuesday-Friday 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM and 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM Saturday and Sunday
Week#2 = Tuesday-Friday 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM
Requirements
This position requires knowledge of wastewater treatment and plant operations. The ability to write well and do basic math calculations is important. The incumbent must be able to physically negotiate each part of the wastewater facility and pumping stations.
