Job Overview

Energy & Utilities Analyst, University Services/Planning and Facilities Management/Engineering & Utilities.

This position provides program and data analysis support to the Office of Engineering and Utilities at the direction of the Energy and Utilities Program Manager. The position reviews commodity billings from the utilities and other energy providers. This includes domestic water, electricity, natural gas, and fuel oil for all University properties, including both Hilltop and Capitol Campuses. They assist in the development of the $45M+ commodity expense forecasting, as well as $15M+ outgoing billing to auxiliary users of the University's utility systems. They assist with other semiannual and annual reporting, and review of reports and energy system data received by the University from the Georgetown Energy Partnership.

Additional duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with utility bill management operations, including the identification and correction of billing discrepancies in collaboration with utility vendors to ensure there are no errors or violations of contract

  • Assist with creation of outgoing utility bills to MedStar Hospital and other external users

  • Produce special and periodic reports and analyses related to the university's utility costs, including assisting with utility expense forecasting

  • Assist with energy and sustainability reporting, including Building Energy Performance Standards reporting to the Department of Energy & Environment

  • Assist with the development and analysis of other special and periodic reports such as the Greenhouse Gas Inventory

  • Assist with review and analysis of information relevant for the management of the Georgetown Energy Partnership

  • Review and analyze utility system data and building-level anomalies

  • Maintain records related to utility billing and other functions of the Office of Engineering & Utilities

Work Interactions

The incumbent reports directly to the Energy and Utilities Program Manager for assignments, work direction, and administrative supervision. This position shall familiarize themselves with department procedures and systems, identify weaknesses or areas of need, and implement programs to fix those deficiencies or fill those gaps.

During the course of the workday, the incumbent will interact directly with faculty, staff, administrators, employees, students, senior leadership, neighbors, external partners, vendors, government agencies and the general public. The position will collaborate with colleagues and partners as needed to accomplish the department's goals. Such partners include the Office of the Chief Financial Officer, Office of Sustainability, Office of Real Estate, Office of Communications, Environmental Health & Safety, Capital Projects, and others. The position will also engage with the university's vendors and local utilities providers, such as PEPCO, Washington Gas, and DC Water frequently in order to identify and correct any billing errors. The position will engage directly with the Georgetown Energy Partnership to produce reports, review project data, partnership deliverables, and understand energy savings and cost impacts of potential and completed projects.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in energy, finance, consulting, analytics, sustainability, or engineering and facilities roles.

  • Bachelor degree in data analytics, statistics, mathematics, business, finance, sustainability, engineering, or other related fields from an accredited program;

  • Professional passion for sustainability and reducing energy usage.

  • The ability to work with a group or team through task completion to attain energy management goals.

  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to work effectively with various personality types.

  • Must have strong listening, communication, and writing skills

  • Must be able to effectively synthesize and summarize complex information. Excellent analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and ability to produce results independently

  • High attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Candidate must be highly experienced with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

  • Incumbent may be required to do some walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling or lifting involved in activities such as conducting on-site field surveys.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or professional certification in a related field.

  • Professional experience with commodities, energy markets, and energy efficiency.

  • Experience working in a higher education or institutional context.

  • Experience with billing and local utilities.

Pay Range:

The projectedsalary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$54,616.00 - $100,493.33

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
