Senior VMware-to-Hyper-V Migration SME / Senior Systems Engineer

The client is seeking an experienced VMware-to-Hyper-V Migration SME or Senior Systems Engineer for a time-sensitive infrastructure transition. A key member of the client’s infrastructure team has given notice, creating an immediate need for knowledge transfer and specialized migration support.


REQUIRED SKILLS: (Need All)

  • Significant hands-on experience administering production VMware environments, including VMware ESXi and vCenter.

  • Prior experience planning and executing migrations of production virtual machines from VMware to Microsoft Hyper-V.

  • Ability to assess an existing VMware environment and develop a practical, phased migration plan that minimizes operational risk and downtime.

  • Experience building or configuring Hyper-V hosts and preparing the target Hyper-V environment for migrated workloads.

  • Experience migrating Windows Server workloads and validating compute, storage, networking, security, application, and performance functionality following migration.

  • Strong knowledge of virtual networking, VLANs, virtual switches, storage dependencies, DNS, IP addressing, and related infrastructure considerations.

  • Experience with backup, recovery, replication, and rollback planning in virtualized environments.

  • Ability to independently take ownership of a migration initiative, identify technical risks, recommend an approach, and communicate clearly with IT leadership.

  • Availability to begin quickly and provide sufficient continuity during a time-sensitive infrastructure transition.


NICE TO HAVE SKILLS:

  • Experience using Veeam for backup, replication, recovery, or workload migration in VMware and Hyper-V environments.

  • Experience integrating Veeam with Wasabi or another S3-compatible cloud object-storage platform.

  • Experience migrating workloads that include Microsoft SQL Server.

  • Experience administering Microsoft Intune and Microsoft Entra ID.

  • Experience supporting F5 technologies, including load balancing or application-delivery infrastructure.

  • Broader Windows systems administration experience in environments containing both on-premises and externally hosted infrastructure.

  • Experience supporting network infrastructure spanning local datacenters and hosted environments.

  • Experience working with third-party infrastructure providers, managed-service partners, or vendors such as CDW.

  • Experience developing infrastructure documentation, migration runbooks, validation procedures, and operational handoff materials.
