Job description

McCabe’s Mechanical Services is a 25+ year-old welding and fabrication business located in Georgetown, DE. The company recently became part of the J. E. Company family of businesses. McCabe’s is currently seeking a full-time Inventory Control and Procurement Specialist who is responsible for managing high-value raw materials (steel, aluminum), specialized consumables (electrodes, gases), and equipment components to prevent production delays.
Job Summary
We are seeking an Inventory Control and Procurement Specialist to manage the supply chain and stockroom for our welding and fabrication shop in Georgetown, DE. You will oversee the acquisition of raw metals, other parts, welding gases, and consumables while maintaining precise inventory records to support our production schedule. This role requires a blend of strategic sourcing, rigorous stock auditing, and a technical understanding of fabrication and conveyor materials.
Key Responsibilities
  • Raw Material amp; Consumable Procurement: Source, purchase, and receive structural steel, sheet metal, welding wire, flux, and specialized gases (Argon, CO2, Oxygen), conveyor parts, and customer-specific supplies and fittings.
  • Vendor Management: Negotiate pricing and lead times with steel, other parts vendors, and industrial gas suppliers to optimize material costs.
  • Inventory Accuracy: Conduct regular cycle counts of high-turnover items like grinding wheels, tips, and nozzles; perform year-end inventory counts and reconcile physical stock with our cloud inventory data.
  • Outbound Shipments: Assist the shop with outbound shipments and related packing slips.
  • Production Support: Collaborate with the shop foreman and engineers to kit and stage materials for upcoming work orders, ensuring welders have the necessary supplies before they start a job.
  • Equipment amp; Repair Parts: Track and order replacement parts for welding machines, plasma cutters, and shop tools; manage the calibration schedule for specialized equipment.
  • Waste amp; Scrap Tracking: Monitor material fallout and scrap metal recycling programs to improve overall shop efficiency and cost recovery.
  • Other duties, as required.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience: 2+ years in inventory or procurement, ideally within a manufacturing, construction, or metal fabrication environment.
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with various metal gauges/thicknesses and welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick) to accurately identify and order supplies.
  • Software Skills: Familiarity with inventory management software, as well as proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Excel and Word.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Physical Ability: Ability to safely operate a forklift to load and unload shipments. The ability to use a pallet jack to move parts and materials, and the ability to lift materials up to 50 lbs. by hand.
