Overview

Job Summary

Galapagos Federal Systems LLC is seeking a highly motivated and technically driven Cybersecurity Intern to support cyber operations, research, and security initiatives within a fast-paced Department of Defense (DoD) contractor environment. This internship is designed for students pursuing careers in cybersecurity, cyber operations, information assurance, offensive security, or national security technologies.  The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical aptitude, leadership potential, and a passion for national security mission support. Candidates with exposure to Linux environments, scripting, networking, cyber competitions, or security research are highly desired.  This role offers hands-on exposure to cybersecurity operations, research initiatives, vulnerability analysis, threat intelligence, and emerging cyber technologies supporting government and defense-related missions.  Key Responsibilities  The Cybersecurity Intern will: 
  • Support cybersecurity operations, research, and technical analysis efforts  
  • Assist with vulnerability assessments and security testing activities  
  • Conduct research related to cyber threats, malware, misinformation campaigns, and network analysis  
  • Support defensive and offensive cyber training environments  
  • Assist with scripting, automation, and technical troubleshooting  
  • Conduct open-source intelligence (OSINT) and technical data gathering  
  • Support documentation, reporting, and technical presentations  
  • Assist with Linux system administration and networking tasks  
  • Collaborate with senior cyber professionals, engineers, and analysts  
  • Maintain compliance with security policies and operational procedures 
  • Other duties as assigned 
RequirementsSkills and Experience  The Cybersecurity Intern must have: 
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree - see educational requirements 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance  
  • U.S. Citizenship required 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities  
  • High ethical standards and integrity  
  • Interest in national security and cyber defense

Preferred Qualifications 
  • CompTIA Security+ Certification  
  • Participation in cyber research projects or cyber clubs  
  • Prior internship experience supporting government, military, or cybersecurity organizations  
  • Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity environments  
  • Exposure to offensive and defensive cyber operations concepts  
  • Experience working in structured leadership environments such as ROTC, military colleges, or cadet leadership programs
 Education and Certifications  The Cybersecurity Internmust have the following:  Required 
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in: Cyber Operations, Cybersecurity or Computer Science

Security Clearance

Must be a U.S. Citizen. A high-level Department of Defense active security clearance is/may be required. Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to government information.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time and typing and reading from a computer screen. The candidate must have enough mobility, including bending, reaching, and kneeling, to complete daily duties in a prompt and efficient manner, and that may include lifting up to thirty pounds, as necessary.
