What Does a Vue Developer Do?

Vue.js is a framework that uses JavaScript for front-end application development. As a Vue developer, your duties focus on creating the visual and interactive aspects of the application (user interfaces). Your responsibilities include creating JavaScript code and handling the integration of the Vue-js framework with the application’s back-end systems. After you develop the user interface, you test it and perform debugging tasks if necessary. You document your work and coordinate with other developers using software development methodologies and frameworks such as SCRUM or Agile. In addition to Vue frameworks and JavaScript, employers often expect you to know HTML and CSS.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Vue Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Vue Developer, you need strong proficiency in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and a solid understanding of Vue.js fundamentals, typically backed by a degree in computer science or relevant experience. Familiarity with tools such as Vue CLI, Vuex, REST APIs, and version control systems like Git is commonly required. Problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and teamwork help developers excel in collaborative and agile environments. These skills ensure the delivery of high-quality, maintainable applications that meet user needs and project goals.

Is better, Vue or React?

For Vue developers, choosing between Vue and React depends on project requirements and personal preference. React has a larger community and ecosystem, while Vue offers a simpler learning curve and more straightforward syntax. Both frameworks are widely used in industry, and proficiency in either can enhance job prospects for Vue developers.

How does a Vue Developer typically collaborate with designers and backend developers on a project?

As a Vue Developer, you'll often work closely with UI/UX designers to bring visual concepts to life, ensuring components and layouts are both usable and visually appealing. Collaboration with backend developers is also essential, as you'll integrate APIs and manage data flow between the frontend and backend systems. Effective communication and a clear understanding of project goals help maintain a smooth development process and ensure that features are delivered as intended. Regular stand-ups, code reviews, and design handoff meetings are common practices in teams using agile methodologies.

Job description

Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services with 278 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.

The Role

At Netflix, we seek to entertain the world. We have more than 200 million members in 190 countries, reflecting that great stories can come from anywhere and be loved everywhere.

As Netflix continues to grow - we are leveraging the unique position we have as both a content distributor and producer to create cutting-edge data driven insights supporting a variety of decisions about the content we make and buy.

The Tools & Insights team, within Data Science & Engineering, builds and maintains data storytelling products for Content, Marketing and Advertising teams. Our products are seen as company-wide sources of truth and play a critical role in creating a shared understanding of the success of our titles. We partner with strategists, data scientists and engineers to tell a holistic story through a connected suite of performant data visualization applications. We're seeking a visualization engineer to own the user experience and data visualizations for our internal content reporting.

You Are:

  • Passionate about building beautiful web apps that focus on data explanation and exploration. You have experience with Node.js and front-end JavaScript (TypeScript encouraged). You have experience working with a component framework like React or Vue.js. D3 or other visualization experience preferred.
  • Self-directed. You enjoy owning your projects and working with product managers and stakeholders to come to creative solutions to our users' problems.
  • You are focused on making data useful to a wide variety of users. You enjoy the challenge of making complex data intuitive to a broad audience. You welcome user feedback and use that information to iterate on your tools.
  • Knowledgeable about trade-offs between different chart types and able to make good decisions on how to best represent various types of data.
  • Passionate about designing, building, and iterating on interfaces, with a strong sense of the entire user experience, not just the individual pieces. Experience working with design prototyping tools like Figma, Adobe XD or Sketch is a plus.
  • Experienced working with data from a variety of sources, including API endpoints and relational databases.
  • Motivated to explore new technologies and comfortable with self-directed learning.
  • Familiar working with data-centric teams on metrics and analytics, and have basic statistical knowledge and intuition.

You can expect to:

  • Work on some of the most used internal tools at Netflix, bringing together multiple data sources, metrics and predictive analytics to keep our business informed about how our ads business is performing.
  • Work with both creative and business stakeholders to rapidly iterate on your initial designs based on user research and feedback.
  • Partner closely with R&D teams to bring new metrics, models and data sources to Netflix.

Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $170,000 - $720,000.

Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs. Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off. Full-time salaried employees are immediately entitled to flexible time off. See more detail about our Benefitshere.

We are an equal-opportunity employer and celebrate diversity, recognizing that diversity of thought and background builds stronger teams. We approach diversity and inclusion seriously and thoughtfully. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, ancestry, national origin, caste, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or expression, age, disability, medical condition, pregnancy, genetic makeup, marital status, or military service.
