Job Summary

The VP of Platform Engineering is responsible for defining and executing the enterprise platform engineering vision, strategy, and operating model across cloud infrastructure, platform services, automation, DevSecOps, reliability engineering, and developer enablement capabilities. This executive leader oversees multiple platform engineering organizations and establishes enterprise standards that ensure secure, scalable, resilient, and cost-effective technology platforms. The VP partners with executive leaders across engineering, architecture, cybersecurity, operations, data, product, and business functions to align platform investments with strategic business priorities. This role drives multi-year modernization initiatives, operational excellence, cloud transformation, platform adoption, engineering productivity, and enterprise technology governance while developing high-performing leadership teams and fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.


Essential Job Functions

  • Define and execute the enterprise platform engineering strategy, roadmaps, standards, and governance frameworks aligned to organizational objectives. Lead enterprise modernization, cloud transformation, engineering enablement, and platform adoption initiatives that improve scalability, reliability, security, and developer productivity. - (20%)
  • Provide executive oversight for platform engineering organizations responsible for cloud infrastructure, DevSecOps, infrastructure as code, platform services, automation frameworks, and engineering tooling. Ensure delivery excellence, operational effectiveness, and alignment with enterprise technology priorities. - (15%)
  • Establish enterprise standards and operating principles for cloud platforms, resilience, observability, availability, recovery, and performance engineering. Drive continuous improvement programs that enhance reliability, efficiency, and customer experience while reducing operational risk. - (15%)
  • Ensure platform services meet enterprise security, regulatory, compliance, audit, and risk management objectives. Sponsor security-by-design practices, cloud governance frameworks, and proactive risk mitigation strategies across the platform ecosystem. (10%)
  • Partner with executive stakeholders across technology and business organizations to prioritize investments, evaluate emerging technologies, and align platform capabilities with growth, innovation, and operational objectives. Serve as a trusted advisor on platform engineering strategy and technology direction. - (10%)
  • Oversee platform investment planning, workforce strategy, vendor management, and technology financial management practices. Optimize operational expenditures, cloud consumption, and platform investments while balancing business priorities, risk, and long-term strategic objectives. - (10%)
  • Champion adoption of emerging technologies, automation capabilities, AI-enabled engineering solutions, and modern platform practices that improve engineering velocity, scalability, and business value delivery across the enterprise. - (10%)
  • Lead and develop a diverse organization of senior leaders and engineering professionals. Build leadership capability, succession pipelines, organizational effectiveness, and a culture of accountability, inclusion, innovation, and continuous learning. - (10%)


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 17-19 years of experience in platform engineering, cloud engineering, infrastructure engineering, DevOps, site reliability engineering, or related technology disciplines.
  • 12+ years leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated success leading enterprise-scale platform transformation and modernization initiatives.
  • Experience overseeing large, complex technology organizations and multi-million-dollar platform portfolios.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Advanced certifications in AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Kubernetes, Security, or enterprise architecture disciplines.
  • Experience leading enterprise cloud transformation, platform product models, FinOps, SRE, DevSecOps, and AI-enabled engineering initiatives.
  • Experience within highly regulated industries, including financial services.

$217,700.00 - $466,600.00

Full Salary Range for position:

California: $250,400.00 - $583,200.00Colorado: $217,700.00 - $489,900.00New York: $239,500.00 - $583,200.00Washington: $228,600.00 - $536,600.00Maryland: $228,600.00 - $513,300.00Washington DC: $250,400.00 - $536,600.00Illinois: $217,700.00 - $513,300.00New Jersey: $250,400.00 - $536,600.00Vermont: $217,700.00 - $466,600.00Ohio: $217,700.00 - $466,600.00Maine: $217,700.00 - $466,600.00Connecticut: $239,500.00 - $513,300.00Virginia: $217,700.00 - $466,600.00

The actual base pay within this range may be dependent upon many factors, which may include, but are not limited to, work location, education, experience, and skills.


You must be work authorized in the United States on a full time basis without the need for any sponsorship now or in the future from any employer or organization. The Company cannot offer employment to F-1 (student) visa holders.

Bread Financial offers medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, and other voluntary benefits (including basic and optional life insurance, supplemental medical plans, and short and long-term disability) to eligible associates (regular full-time associates scheduled to work 30 hours per week or more) and their spouses/domestic partners, and child(ren) under the age of 26. New associate elected coverage begins on date of hire (with the exception of disability coverage which has a 6-month waiting period). Six weeks of 100% paid parental leave for eligible parents is available after a 180-day waiting period. Hired associates can immediately enroll in Bread Financial's 401(k) plan.

All associates receive 11 paid holidays. Associates have discretion in managing their time away from work through the Flexible Time Off (FTO) program and may need to notify and receive approval from their manager prior to taking the time off. Associates (except those located in Illinois) receive 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safe Time ("PSST") upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois associates receive 40 hours of Illinois PSST upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year and 40 hours of Illinois Paid Leave upon hire and at the beginning of each subsequent calendar year. Illinois Paid Leave must be used before associates in Illinois will be approved to take FTO.

Hired associates will be able to elect the purchase company stock during offering periods in June and December. You will be eligible for an annual incentive bonus based on individual and company performance.
