Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington, DC (RMHCDC) has been serving families in the Greater Washington, DC area for over 40 years. Position Overview

The Vice President of Development is a critical leadership role and a driving force in shaping the future of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington, DC (RMHCDC). Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Vice President will serve on the executive team and collaborate closely with the President & CEO, the Board of Directors, and a dedicated development team to realize a bold vision for RMHCDC’s future.

The Vice President will conceptualize, implement, and execute an annual fundraising plan inclusive of strategy, tactics, and activities to ensure that annual goals are successfully met or exceeded. They will promote and facilitate a philanthropic culture of donor development that is data-driven, and transformative.

The Vice President is responsible for building trust-based relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including Corporations, Foundations, Individuals, Organizations, and Strategic Partners. The person in this role is responsible for leading the fundraising team, providing guidance, support, and overall strategy.

Supervisory Responsibilities And/or Collaborative Responsibilities

The Vice President will supervise the AVP, Corporate and Foundation Relations; Director, Individual Giving; and Manager, Strategic Partnerships and work collaboratively with Marketing and Communications, Community Engagement, House Operations, and Finance.

Essential Functions

  • Develops, implements and evaluates the organization’s annual development operating plan, including overseeing all strategy, goals, budget, and key performance indicators for Corporate, Foundation, Individual, Organizational, and Strategic Partners.
  • Develops and facilitates best-practice campaign planning that integrates existing strategic plan and Impact Fund strategies to inform campaign priorities, financial goals, and engagement.
  • Manages all gift solicitations, setting and documenting goals and developing opportunities to enhance and expand core programs, including ownership of Top 25 and Key 100 prospects and donors.
  • Supports the President and CEO in managing a portfolio of principal gift donors through strategy development, moves management, and excellent communication.
  • Identifies and proposes new fundraising opportunities to benefit RMHCDC.
  • Supervises, leads, and mentors development colleagues in accordance with RMHCDC policies and procedures. Collaborates with the team to meet annual goals through regular and annual performance evaluations.
  • Works with the Community Engagement team to plan and implement fundraising events and projects as they relate to the annual plan; supports the Community Engagement team in the execution of events.
  • Evaluates and ensures implementation of best practice use of NEON donor database. Annually reviews and updates gift acceptance, acknowledgement, and tax receipting policies and procedures.
  • Ensures consistent reporting on fundraising goals, KPIs, and results.
  • Develops, enhances, and oversees RMHCDC donor stewardship and recognition, utilizing website, social media, and events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The Details

  • Position Location: Local to the Greater Washington, DC area. This position will work a hybrid schedule with significant regional travel expectations and occasional national travel. Evenings and weekend work required on occasion.
  • Salary Range: $130,000 to $156,000

Qualifications And Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Advanced Degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in fundraising, advancement support and services, grant writing, and communications in the nonprofit sector.
  • Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) or Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP) certification, a plus.
  • Proven success in translating organizational vision and high-level objectives into actionable Development plans with clear goals and KPIs that measure impact.
  • Experience working on capital campaigns, building corporate, foundation and individual giving programs, and demonstrated success securing complex and/or blended gifts.
  • Possesses knowledge and a deep understanding of moves management principles and all aspects of the fundraising cycle.
  • Proficient in Neon CRM (or similar database), MS Office Suite, project management software; is willing and able to learn new programs.
