Job description

The Vice President of Finance plays a critical leadership role in ensuring the financial health, integrity, and growth of the company. This position is responsible for overseeing all financial operations, including accounting, cash management, compliance, and financial planning. The VP of Finance partners closely with ownership and executive leadership to provide accurate, timely, and actionable financial insights that drive strategic decision-making. This is an opportunity to make a significant impact by building robust financial systems and processes that support sustainable, profitable growth and reduce reliance on ad hoc financial interventions.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger, work-in-progress (WIP), accounts receivable (AR), accounts payable (AP), payroll, and inventory records
  • Develop, implement, and enforce financial policies, approval limits, and internal controls
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and other financial reporting requirements
  • Manage cash flow, including monitoring inflows and outflows to prevent shortages and surprises
  • Actively manage AR collections, AP timing, and working capital to optimize liquidity
  • Provide ownership with forward-looking cash flow visibility and scenario modeling
  • Oversee accurate job costing, labor burden allocation, and proper WIP tracking for revenue recognition
  • Identify and elevate margin leakage and financial risks proactively
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and produce rolling forecasts
  • Monitor and report on budget versus actual performance on a monthly basis
  • Prepare and facilitate Monthly Financial Reviews (MFR) with leadership
  • Deliver proactive financial reporting to reduce reactive inquiries
  • Train, cross-train, and provide succession planning for the accounting team
  • Ensure consistent execution of all finance-related processes
Qualifications
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in finance or accounting leadership roles
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (required)
  • CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional credential (strongly preferred)
  • Experience in construction, plumbing, HVAC, or other project-based businesses (strongly preferred)
  • Expertise in job costing, WIP accounting, and revenue recognition
  • Proven ability to manage cash flow and working capital in growth environments
  • Demonstrated success in budgeting, financial controls, and process improvementHigh attention to detail and strong executive-level judgment
  • Ability to enforce financial discipline while fostering a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders
