About the Director, International Experiences position:

The Director, International Experiences, oversees Jewish engagement opportunities for audiences 18-26, through local and international travel programs, primarily focused on Israel. Through supervision of the International Experiences Associate, the Director creates strategies to increase participation and ensure the successful facilitation of the entire International Experience portfolio, including Taglit Birthright Israel, Birthright Israel Onward, MASA programs, and other international programs in Israel and elsewhere to ensure Jewish college+ students are growing participation in international Jewish experiences.


This position includes planning, program and event development and execution, and an aptitude for partnership development. The Director manages existing international partnership programs (Birthright etc.), and researches and builds new international programs, and develops partnerships with program providers, campus partners, and other agencies to support the audience and success of the programs. The position is responsible for cultivating the relationship with Jewish Cleveland 18-26-year-old demographic including strategizing the pipeline and alumni.


The Director is responsible for communicating with partners, participants, and parents. This includes being a key piece in crisis response, including managing integral aspects of planning and communications during unexpected periods. (Examples: mobilizing resources for and organizing support for participants in Israel during crisis, pivoting programs in case of cancellations, communicating with participants and parents in times of crisis).


The Director role is donor and committee facing and includes grant oversight and reporting. This position is full-time and reports to the VP, International Operations.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Supervise International Experiences Associate, overseeing all recruitment and promotion strategy of programs, relationships with campus partners, and all aspects of International Experiences portfolio.

  • Develop and manage International Experiences portfolio budgets and event budgets.

  • Develop partnership strategies to expand and support International Experiences initiatives and programs including identifying, building, and maintaining relationships.

  • Familiarity with international logistics including itinerary and travel planning and execution.

  • Program creation, facilitation, and expansion, including designing educational/experiential/engagement opportunities before and after programs.

  • Oversee and/or manage large and small-scale events, programs, and workshops throughout the year related to International Experiences portfolio, including partnering with program providers, funders, campus partners, and other agencies related to the 18-26 demographic.

  • Ensure grant parameters that fund different aspects of the International Experiences work are achieved, including increasing participation on programs, and creating/expanding pre/during/post-program strategies and impact.


Additional Duties/Responsibilities:

  • 10% of the position is allocated to an annual campaign assignment; this may include, but is not limited to, providing staff support to volunteers, and participating in regular campaign meetings and events, as determined by the Campaign Director.

  • The position requires international and domestic travel, including but not limited to Israel, traveling to campuses in Cleveland and all of Ohio (and other states), and attending networking and program partnership meetings.

  • This position supports the International Operations department’s needs, including supporting visiting international delegations, and contributing to the overall efforts of the Federation, including staffing community events.

  • All other relevant responsibilities and duties as directed.

  • Knowledge and experience on a college campus environment (such as Hillel) preferred.

  • Marketing and promotion skills preferred.

  • International logistics, and travel experience preferred.

  • Event design, management, and execution background preferred.


Education, Training, and/or Experience



  • 5+ years of relevant work experience.

  • Significant experience living and/or working in Israel.
