Job description

Occupational Therapist

This posting is for a 1.0 FTE Occupational Therapist for the 2026-27 school year with the anticipated start date of September 1, 2026. Required attachments include a cover letter, resume, transcripts, three certificated reference forms and/or letters, and a valid Washington State Certificate.

The job of the Occupational Therapist is to assess students' functional development level; maximizing students' functional level providing information for program development and student placement; improving students' performance, and providing information on child development and/or issues for specific students to instructional personnel. Performance responsibilities include:

  • Assessing students' fine motor skills and development skills for the purpose of determining their deficits and developing recommendations for treatment.
  • Consulting with teachers, parents, other personnel and/or outside professionals for the purpose of providing requested information, developing plans for services and/or making recommendations.
  • Facilitating meetings for the purpose of developing plans and/or providing information regarding students' functional goals.
  • Instructing students for the purpose of implementing plans for remediation of functional limitations.
  • Preparing documentation for the purpose of providing written support, developing recommendations, and/or conveying information.
  • Presenting information on various topics related to professional expertise in occupational therapy for the purpose of communicating information and gaining feedback on treatment issues.
  • Screening students for the purpose of determining the need for future individualized assessments.
  • Assisting other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Participating in various meetings for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information and/or meeting credential requirements.
  • Performing essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Completing work at assigned workstation(s).
  • Consistently dealing with people in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include:

  • Valid Washington State ESA certification as an Occupational Therapist
  • Prior job-related experience
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background clearance
  • Knowledge of and skills to apply assessment techniques and treatment modalities, relevant education codes, state and district policies, child development patterns, effective communication
  • Ability to complete a case study and develop an individual education plan; work independently, be flexible and work under time constraints, work effectively with staff, parents, students, and community.
  • Working knowledge of rules, regulations, and laws dealing with special education
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff, parents, administration, and support personnel
  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods, perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain records, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, other school personnel, meet schedule and deadlines. Significant physical abilities may include lifting/carrying 25 to 50 pounds, pushing/pulling/reaching/handling talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/accommodation/field of vision.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Compensation and Benefits: Employee Compensation and Benefits are outlined in the CEA Bargaining Agreement. See Article XIII Economic Provisions, Article VII Leaves, Appendix O. 2025-26 school year rates listed. 2026-27 school year rates TBD.

Retirement benefits, if eligible, may include membership in TRS retirement plans in addition to voluntary Deferred Compensation Program and 403(b) Annuity enrollments. Paid time off is also outlined in the CEA Bargaining Agreement.
