Library Associate

The Town of Mansfield is hiring a full-time Library Associate. The ideal candidate will be an approachable and engaging individual who places a high priority on consistently exceptional public service. This position performs paraprofessional technical services work maintaining and developing a bibliographic database; maintaining financial records; formatting raw statistics for reports to librarians; operating the circulation desk; supervising the preparation of materials for circulation; providing assistance to library patrons as well as related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision and limited supervision may be exercised over subordinate personnel and volunteers. Position reports to the Library Director, Assistant Library Director, or their designee, as assigned.

The Mansfield Library provides guidance and access to the materials and information which enhance and enrich the lives of people of all ages. The Mansfield Library Express is a library branch at the Nash-Zimmer Transportation Center located in Downtown Storrs. It's a quick and convenient place to return items borrowed from the library and pick up items that have been requested. The Library Express has a small collection of DVDs, magazines and books to browse. The Nash-Zimmer Transportation Center is the Town of Mansfield's transportation hub where residents & visitors can catch a bus, store their bike, park their car, visit attractions, and more. Mansfield, with a population of approximately 26,000, is located in the Northeastern portion of the state, better known as Connecticut's Last Green Valley National Heritage Corridor. Home to the University of Connecticut, Mansfield offers the unique blend of urban (Downtown Storrs), suburban, and rural living in a university setting. Mansfield has a variety of cultural and educational offerings, as well as an abundance of natural resources ideal for activities such as hiking, cycling, and kayaking. Mansfield is a Council-Manager form of government, with the Town Manager serving as the Chief Executive Officer responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Town.

Total compensation is $27.85/hr ($50,882/yr) - $35.21/hr ($64,329/yr) as of July 1, 2026. The hiring rate of pay will depend upon the selected candidate's qualifications and experience. This position is full-time with benefits. The Town of Mansfield provides an extremely competitive benefits package. Mansfield participates in the Connecticut Municipal Retirement System (CMERS), a defined benefit pension plan, a variety of other benefits such as medical, vision, dental, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance, tuition assistance, paid vacation and holidays.

The selected candidate will be scheduled for 35 hours per week, with a four day work week. Incumbents will be required to work evenings and Saturdays as assigned to meet operational needs of the Department. The work location is the Mansfield Public Library, 54 Warrenville Road, Mansfield Center.

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited community college with certificate in library technology and some experience in library work or other work dealing with the public. Consideration will be given to equivalent experience, education and training.
