Job description

Overview
POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The Label Specialist will be part of the Corporate Quality group at the Torrance, CA facility. This individual will be responsible for supporting Quality Compliance in activities related to product labels, allergen reviews and certification programs.
DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
  • Provide Food, Dietary Supplement and Cosmetic (including OTC) label guidance through collaboration, cross functionally, with Regulatory Affairs, Legal, Marketing, Product Science and Product Development.
  • Conduct QA review for all global product labels to verify compliance of the information on the labels to regulatory requirements, including product name, weight statement, ingredient statement, allergen declaration, and nutrition/supplement facts.
  • Ensure there is documented support for product claims.
  • Review various change controls using Agile system including product specifications as related to label claims.
  • Assist in certification programs such as GFCO, AVA, Kosher and Halal.
  • Conducts ad-hoc allergen reviews for manufacturing facilities and assists Food Safety Teams to ensure appropriate allergen preventive controls are implemented.
  • Provide Member Services technical support. Respond to customer inquiries regarding questions on nutrition, ingredients and product claims.
  • Assist with Herbalife Annual Testing program activities by processing samples from the manufacturers, coordinating testing with QC, analyzing data and recommending corrective actions for issues.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Working knowledge of U.S. FDA Food and Dietary Supplement label regulations
  • Understanding of food safety, related to allergens and labeling requirements
  • Understanding of the cGMP manufacturing environment and basic production operation
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn technical software. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs with strong Excel skills
  • The ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with demonstrated influence management skills. Comfortable in small group and large group settings.
  • Must be detail oriented, take initiative to work on tasks independently and be able to work in a fast-paced environment to complete time sensitive projects or tasks.
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to develop positive relationships and work cross functionally

Experience:
  • 5 years' experience in quality assurance and compliance in Food or Dietary Supplement industry
  • Preferred 3+ years' experience in food regulatory and label compliance. In-depth knowledge of U.S. labeling laws.

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry or related
