Position Summary

The Chief of Party is responsible for planning, leading, and directing survey crew activities to collect accurate field data in support of land documentation, engineering design, construction, maintenance, and utility operations projects. Working under general supervision, this position oversees a wide range of survey activities, including infrastructure, property, hydrographic, and control surveys, while ensuring all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with Company standards and applicable regulations.

The Chief of Party provides field leadership, supervises survey personnel, performs survey computations, maintains accurate records, operates and maintains survey equipment and technology, and interfaces professionally with clients, contractors, property owners, and the public. This role may also perform duties associated with lower land survey classifications, as required.


Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and direct the activities of survey crews to obtain all field data necessary for the preparation of land documents, engineering drawings, and construction layouts supporting Company design, construction, maintenance, and operational functions.
  • Lead and perform field surveys for existing and proposed:
    • Roads, canals, and ditches
    • Telephone, distribution, and transmission lines
    • Microwave and communication installations
    • Utility infrastructure and construction projects
  • Establish horizontal and vertical survey control for construction and engineering projects.
  • Conduct hydrographic surveys, settlement surveys for dams, power plants, and other major structures.
  • Perform property and boundary surveys, including establishing and setting property corners for Company-owned land.
  • Collect, verify, and process field data and perform required survey calculations and computations.
  • Maintain accurate survey documentation using field notebooks, electronic data collectors, and Company-designated data management systems.
  • Operate, maintain, and safeguard survey instruments, GPS equipment, total stations, data collectors, computers, and related interfaces.
  • Ensure compliance with Company safety policies, operational procedures, and quality standards.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and direction to survey crew personnel.
  • Interact professionally with clients, contractors, agencies, landowners, and the general public.
  • Perform duties associated with lower-level survey classifications, as required.

Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of civil engineering, geomatics, or survey technology education from an accredited college or technical institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum one (1) year of field experience as a Senior Land Technician or equivalent role.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, direct, and coordinate survey crew activities in a field environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with the public and project stakeholders.
  • Thorough knowledge of surveying principles, field procedures, computations, and survey equipment operation.

Hourly Range: $64.93/hr to $75.72/hr
