Job description

ABOUT THE POSITION

Project Surveyor | South Portland, ME

Our growing South Portland, Maine office is looking for a Project Surveyor. Under general supervision responsible for all aspects of a survey project regulated by a specific state’s laws and board of licensure rules, applying the laws and procedures relating to land ownership, boundaries and titles when reviewing survey work.

Responsibilities

  • Manages all aspects of survey work that result in boundary determination inclusive of field and office efforts.
  • Manages all aspects of survey work that includes boundary determination but is regulated by a particular state’s laws, rules, and regulations, resulting in boundary determination inclusive of field and office efforts.
  • Research historical maps, land records, previous survey results and land title information as needed to compare and verify current measurements and resolve questions of boundary lines.
  • Creates reports and maps according to client or project requirements containing information from field measurements, boundary markers, and other physical features.
  • Prepares two-dimensional maps and three-dimensional computer renderings of property features, such as boundary lines, existing structures, utility lines, and other physical features.
  • Coordinates field crews and survey/CAD Technicians.
  • Performs field checks and manages quality control.
  • May provide technical guidance to junior staff for projects' duration.
  • Participates in professional and personal development aligned with career goals.
  • Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and VHB policies and procedures.

Skills and Attributes

  • Solid knowledge of surveying mathematics (e.g., geometry, trigonometry, least squares adjustment).
  • Proficient in reading and understanding engineering, architectural, and structural drawings.
  • In-depth knowledge of all aspects of geomatics/survey engineering (e.g., legal requirements, boundary determinations, topographic surveys, utility surveys, highway surveys, subdivisions, construction stakeout, lidar, photogrammetry, terrestrial/mobile/aerial scanning).
  • Excellent research skills.
  • Ability to operate company vehicles.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and understanding of mapping concepts.

Qualifications

  • 0-4 years of experience as a Licensed Professional Land Surveyor
  • High school diploma or GED
  • AS or BS in Survey Engineering, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred
  • Extensive experience using industry standard software for data collection, processing, management, and drafting, including but not limited to AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, Trimble, and ArcGIS.
