Job description

St. Joseph Catholic Church, located in Sykesville, MD, seeks candidates for a Coordinator of Evangelization & Adult Faith Formation. The Coordinator of Evangelization & Adult Faith Formation is a member of the Pastoral Staff and reports to the Director of Operations. The position will be responsible for Evangelization, Adult Faith Formation, and Outreach/Promotion. The mission will be to invite and assist people to grow in faith, find their place in the church and help form committed disciples. This is a benefit eligible position working 30 weekly hours.
Essential Functions:
  • Develop creative approaches to evangelization, adult faith formation, and spiritual enrichment, and work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers, including those involved with OCIA, Baptism Preparation, liturgy, and other adult programs to facilitate spiritual growth in Catholics and non-Catholics searching for more in their faith-life.
  • Work with the Pastor and lay leaders to assure the implementation of the Parish Vision to be the Spiritual, Moral and Social hub of Eldersburg Sykesville including hospitality initiatives, welcoming new parishioners, and the development of small group opportunities for people who seek to deepen their personal relationship with Jesus, and for those who want to become intentional disciples.
  • Communicate knowledge of Christ's person, message, and mission to adult believers and non-believers in a way that nourishes them at the various stages of their lives and invites them to renew their commitment to hearing and being open to the Gospel.
  • Oversee opportunities geared to personal conversion of individuals to Christ in a way that leads to spiritual renewal and greater participation in the life and worship of the Church, including knowledge of Scripture and Sacred Tradition.
  • Directly Oversee the following Programs and events for adults:
    • Baptismal Preparation
    • Marriage Preparation and Enrichment
    • ACTS Retreats
    • OCIA and Adult Confirmation
    • Small Groups and Evangelization programming.
  • Develop a calendar and differentiate curriculum with the pastor and faith formation staff for Adult Faith Formation, Adult Bible Studies, Parish Missions, and Speaker series.
  • Work with Pastor to convert his Bearing the Beams of Love into a repeatable annual program
  • Coordinate with the Archdiocese of Baltimore's Office of Parish Renewal opportunities for Staff Retreats and Catechist formation and retreats.
  • Acts as liaison for Family Life and Human Development Committee and other service justice ministries, communicating their concerns, needs and abilities to the Parish Staff.
  • Promote daily personal prayer, and in conjunction with the universal Church, frequent reception of the sacraments, the Liturgy of the Hours, the Rosary, regular Eucharistic adoration and other devotions
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of liturgical and catechetical celebrations that invite baptized persons into a deeper experience of the Christian life, celebration of sacraments, prayer and missionary activity.
  • Create and build upon what is already taking place in parish life to promote service to those most in need, educationally, socially, materially, and spiritually.
  • Maintain a working relationship with Archdiocesan Offices, neighboring parishes and the Pastoral Council.

Administrative and other responsibilities
  • Have working knowledge of (or ability to learn) Ministry Platform and other relevant website tools, including utilization of social networking and Flocknote email distribution system.
  • Provide guidance and support for all ministries under your coordination with respect to budgets, expense processing, fundraising etc.
  • Provide annual budget information for the ministry area and review and manage income and expenses for line items associated with activities, programs, and events budgeted. Review financial variance reports, make adjustments accordingly, and seek the support of the supervisor or Director of Parish Operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations or Pastor

Position Qualifications:
  • Applicant must be a practicing Roman Catholic, committed to the teachings and mission of the Church, and to sharing these effectively with others.
  • Bachelor's Degree in ministry, religious studies, or theology preferred. Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience in parish ministry (at least 5 years preferred).
  • Familiarity with Scripture and basic Church documents regarding catechesis and evangelization, and with the latest models of adult faith formation and evangelizing strategies, programs and technologies.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and formation
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire and work with volunteers and staff
  • Creativity, flexibility, joy and enthusiasm in evangelizing people at all stages of faith development including the unchurched.
  • Demonstrated leadership, collaborative, and group process skills with at least three years of related experience.
  • Strong communication and organization skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint

Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel, or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 25 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Working Environment
  • The nature of this position requires the candidate to work a flexible schedule comprised of day, evening, and weekend hours. Though the nature of the job requires flexibility in being and not being physically available, nevertheless, the incumbent must be on hand for consultation and to respond to phone and email messages in a timely and professional manner.

Pay Range: $25.64, Hourly
