Organizational Summary
Goodwill Industries of West Michigan is a non-profit organization headquartered in Muskegon, MI. We serve our community by providing employment development services and placement assistance for employment. Our programs are supported with profits generated primarily through the sale of donated goods in our Retail Stores. We have 17 retail stores and 2 employment and training centers operating in a region spanning Manistee to Holland to Cedar Springs.
Profile Summary
Goodwill relies on generous volunteers to support our mission. As a Goodwill volunteer, you can contribute directly to our mission of changing lives through the power of work by assisting with tax preparation, providing childcare for program participant families, helping in our retail stores, supporting Goodwill events within the community, and other rewarding opportunities that utilize your communication, organization, or customer service skills to make a positive impact on our community.
Responsibilities
VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) volunteers prepare taxes or provide site support through the VITA tax preparation program.
Requirements:
1. Complete tax preparer training (40 hours).
2. Commit to a specific schedule.
Childcare Volunteers provide direct childcare for children 6 months to 12 years old while parents/guardians participate in Goodwill onsite programming.
Requirements:
1. Complete CPR/First Aid training within 3 months of volunteer.
2. Successfully pass national background check (for non-minors).
3. Complete childcare orientation (one hour).
4. Commit to a specific schedule.
Retail Volunteers:
- Assist Donation Attendants to bring in donations, move materials, and sort products.
- Assist Retail Associates by putting merchandise on the sales floor & rotating merchandise.
- Assist Retail Associates with various cleaning and organizing duties.
Requirements:
1. Complete Retail Orientation (2 hours).
2. Commit to a specific schedule.
Special Project/Event Volunteers participate in events in the community such as donation drives, program-specific events, and special retail sales events.
Requirements:
1. Complete Event Volunteer Training (2 hours).
2. Special Project/Event Volunteers can commit to a year or for a specific event.
