The LIVESTRONG Cancer Survivorship Volunteer provides encouragement and support to cancer survivors participating in the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program. Volunteers assist with either the 12-week survivorship program and/or serve as STAYSTRONG alumni special events volunteers, helping foster a welcoming, inclusive environment that promotes physical, emotional, and social well-being.
LIVESTRONG at the Y is a 12-week physical activity program designed to help adult cancer survivors regain strength, energy, and community at their local YMCA. It equips those living with, through, or beyond cancer to get back on their feet and connect with other survivors. Participants enjoy free or low-cost exercise regimens catered to their needs. The 12 week program is led by two trained LIVESTRONG instructors.
As a 12-Week LIVESTRONG Program Volunteer, you will:
  • Assist LIVESTRONG instructors during twice-weekly, 90-minute LIVESTRONG sessions over a 12-week program.

  • Welcome participants and help create a safe, supportive, and encouraging atmosphere.

  • Offer motivation and peer support to cancer survivors throughout their wellness journey.

  • Assist with program setup, participant check-in, and cleanup as needed.

  • Encourage engagement while respecting participant privacy and confidentiality.

  • Assist with data collection as needed.

As a STAYSTRONG Special Event Volunteer, you will:
  • Support special events, reunions, and outreach activities for LIVESTRONG program graduates.

  • Welcome and connect with current participants, alumni, caregivers, and community members.

  • Provide encouragement to inspire continued wellness and community involvement.

  • Assist with event logistics, registration, and participant engagement.
