The Central Texas Food Bank (CTFB) is the leading hunger-relief organization in Central Texas and a proud member of the Feeding America network. From its headquarters in Austin, CTFB serves a 21-county region on a mission to increase food access by providing nutritious food, leading hunger and poverty advocacy efforts, and transforming lives through programs, education, and innovative solutions. Position Overview
Our mission to nourish hungry people and lead the community in the fight against hunger would not be possible without volunteers. Reporting to the Director of Volunteer Engagement, the Austin Volunteer Engagement Manager supervises three volunteer engagement coordinators. The key responsibilities of the team include running CTFB's leadership volunteer programs; supporting volunteer recruitment and operational needs for all programs that use volunteers; volunteer scheduling and customer service; volunteer data entry and hour tracking; and volunteer check in/out coverage for morning, afternoon and evening volunteer shifts Monday through Saturday. This position is specifically responsible for managing a culture of leveraging the volunteer experience to deepen community relationships and engagement, overseeing accurate and strategic volunteer data management, and overseeing fundraising through volunteerism. This position requires strong relationship building internally and externally.
Relationships
The Volunteer Engagement Manager directly supervises three Volunteer Engagement Coordinators. Internally, this role interacts frequently with members of the Resource Development and Communications teams, as well as the teams from each program that use volunteers (Sort, Kitchen, Garden, Mobile Pantry, Senior Programs, Home Delivery, and other departments that request admin volunteers). Externally, this role interacts with and oversees the customer service of a high volume of groups and individuals who are interested in or actively volunteering with the Central Texas Food Bank.
Requirements
Your Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or in lieu of degree, 10+ years of relevant experience
  • 5+ years' experience in relationship-based fundraising, volunteer engagement or nonprofit management
  • Proven track record of 2+ years managing staff and collaborating across teams to achieve objectives
  • An affinity for the Food Bank's volunteers who share their time and skills with us every day, attentiveness to their motivations and interests and a desire to communicate gratitude and constantly improve their volunteer experience
  • Progressive career experience managing volunteer programs, developing donor relationships, and/or managing fundraising or corporate relations programs
  • Proficiency in volunteer management software, fundraising/constituent relationship management software, and Microsoft Office
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail and accuracy while adhering to deadlines
  • Good judgment and discretion, strong ethical character, ability to preserve donor and volunteer confidentiality and when requested, anonymity
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with other Food Bank staff and volunteers
  • Belief in CTFB's mission, vision, values and culture

Your Responsibilities
  • Supervise three Volunteer Engagement Coordinators, whose key responsibilities include running our leadership volunteer programs; supporting volunteer recruitment and operational needs for all programs that use volunteers; volunteer scheduling and customer service; volunteer data entry and hour tracking; and volunteer check in/out coverage for morning, afternoon and evening volunteer shifts Monday through Saturday.
  • Oversee departmental data collection and analysis, benchmarking and evaluation. Ensure that volunteer service hours are accurately tracked and that the Food Bank volunteer experience is meeting defined targets; volunteer data is being captured and used to deepen engagement; and the impact of volunteer service hours on Operations and programs targets is defined and measured.
  • Strategically manage departmental relationship building with volunteers and volunteer groups, identifying and recruiting/retaining individual volunteers, companies and community groups with the greatest potential to engage further. This includes:
    • Lead the Volunteer Engagement team's portfolio and moves management activities, including defining individualized strategies and cultivation plans and executing these plans to meet the Food Bank's community engagement goals.
    • Solicit sponsorships for large, private, custom and offsite volunteer shifts, manage the fulfillment of sponsorship benefits and steward sponsoring volunteer groups. Create and manage volunteer sponsorship solicitation materials and communication templates.
    • Review incoming volunteer registrations and (1) share information with other teams when established community partners, donors and sponsors are scheduled to volunteer; (2) initiate prospecting and discovery with new volunteer groups.
    • Recruit volunteers for select internal Food Bank events and external third party events, using event volunteer recruitment as a cultivation and stewardship tool for strategic partners.
  • Represent the Food Bank to the public, including meetings, tours and presentations to prospective volunteer groups, and interviews with the media as needed.
  • Develop a high-performance team culture focused on leadership and accountability at all levels, continuous learning, collaboration, measurement, and goal achievement by modeling the way and enabling others to act.
  • Set performance goals for team members that align to CTFB's strategy, and evaluate performance against goals on a regular basis.
  • Effectively coach team members and provide supportive and developmental feedback to enhance performance. Ensure that team members develop the technical, leadership and professional skills necessary for success.
  • Actively supports organization's values, goals and objectives by leading by example.

Working Conditions
  • Hours of Operation: Core business hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. This position's schedule is flexible to align with the 60+ hours of coverage that the Volunteer Engagement team is responsible for, so this role sometimes requires working protracted or irregular hours including evenings and/or weekends. Work-life balance is a core value of the team and when irregular hours are required, flex time is encouraged to keep the total number of work hours per week at 40, provided work objectives are met.
  • Environment: This position requires sitting or standing for long periods of time, using computers, laptops and other technology. This position also occasionally works outside in various weather conditions such as extreme heat, cold or rain and occasionally works around machines with moving parts and moving objects. This position works closely with others and works alone.
  • Travel: CTFB serves 21 counties in central Texas. This position may rarely require same-day travel between counties, using a personal vehicle or CTFB passenger fleet and possibly occasional out of town travel for meetings, special events or professional development.
