Job description

Internship Opportunity

A practicum student, intern, or volunteer responsibilities include completing tasks assigned to them in support of the AAMA Prevention and Counseling's high standards and values. In addition to assigned tasks, the volunteer is expected to demonstrate professionalism, arrive on time, and follow instructions. Some of the duties might involve assisting with clients, preparing materials, assisting with recordkeeping, facilitating group, counseling sessions, and working jointly with trained personnel. When interns or students are on duty, their dress should conform to the Prevention and Counseling Center's dress code.

All interns, practicum, or volunteers will be required to complete a Background Check and Drug Test, as well as required training. Interns, practicum students, and volunteers will be required to check in and out at the front desk of the Prevention and Counseling Center. This record allows AAMA to know who is in the building, as well as track hours. Interns, practicum students, and volunteers are required to wear name badges provided by the counseling center as a security measure. Interns, practicum students, and volunteers are required to learn counseling center procedures and follow them.

  • To be punctual and be available during assigned hours.

  • To take precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • To participate responsibly in the counseling center's improvement initiatives.
  • To demonstrate timeliness and attendance for assigned responsibilities.
  • To work collaboratively with other personnel and clients.
  • To provide and accept evaluative feedback professionally.
  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about personnel and clients.
Preferred Technical Skills
  • Familiar with the basic functions of a computer.
Preferred Experience
  • Graduate or Undergraduate in counseling, social work, or criminal justice services
