Job description

Position Overview
Shelter House is a community of residents, staff and volunteers working together to provide basic human services for the men and women of the Greater Cincinnati area who are experiencing homelessness. The cook is responsible for planning, preparing and serving meals to residents of Shelterhouse.
Essential Job Duties
  • Prepares and serves meals to 200+ residents according to meal schedule
  • Ensures the kitchen area remains clean per Shelterhouse standards
  • Responsible for making sure all three meals served at Shelterhouse are done so in an efficient manner, and will be required to work with Resident Aides during this time
  • Keep and store accurate documentation of temperature and menu track logs
  • Ensure items are being rotated and labeled as they come in
  • Restock kitchen and prep meals for subsequent shifts
  • Provide good customer service to clients
  • 20-24 Hours a week
  • Must be able to work early morning hours and weekends

Physical Requirements (% of time spent performing requirements)
  • Time spent walking/standing- 90%
  • Time spent sitting- 10%
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Must have knowledge of State of Ohio and Federal guidelines and requirements for safe handling of food and food storage
  • Ability to function effectively in a high energy environment
  • Ability to work independently
