The Opportunity

Join a collaborative team of engineers, data scientists and actuaries who use technology, analytics and data to shape pricing decisions across the business. As the insurance industry continues to evolve, this role offers the chance to create a meaningful impact by helping modernize and improve our pricing capabilities.

We are looking for anAnalytics Managerto lead a team of Python developers and statistical analysts within our Commercial Data Science team, based in Toronto or Markham. In this role, you will guide the development of innovative pricing solutions that support commercial underwriting teams and improve how we serve customers, brokers and business partners.

Aviva Canada has invested inHyperexponential (Hx), a modern pricing platform that enables teams to build, deploy and manage pricing models using Python. You will lead a team responsible for developing and delivering Hx solutions across more than 20 Commercial lines within the Global Corporate and Specialty (GCS) business. Working closely with business and technical partners, you will help advance our roadmap to expand platform adoption across all GCS lines of business.

As a people leader, you will support the growth and success of a team of 5Hx developers. You will partner closely with pricing actuaries to deliver pricing solutions that bring models into production. You will also collaborate with underwriters and other business stakeholders to understand requirements, prioritize work and deliver effective solutions. In addition, you will work alongside technology teams to integrate Hx applications into the broader pricing ecosystem through APIs and microservices, helping create a seamless and scalable experience.

What you'll do:
  • Lead development cycle of HX pricing products into production in collaboration with other business stakeholders and IT professionals.

  • Oversee integration of HX products to the wider pricing ecosystem such as Policy Administrative System and Datalake using APIs and micro services.

  • Being accountable for the design and build of efficient, reusable, reliable and secure python codebase using TDD principles.

  • Mentor your team members on design and code best practices, quality, performance, and security.

  • Lead working sessions with business to gather requirements and be accountable for insuring delivery matches business needs

  • Regularly communicate updates with different stakeholders and be ready to present progress in different venues such as steering committees and decision forums.

  • Manage agile methodology with rituals such as scrums, planning, retrospectives etc. with a passion for structure but the flexibility to think outside the scrum.

What you'll bring:
  • An educational background in computer science or engineering, math, statistics, physics, or a related field. A minimum of a BSc is required, Masters is preferred.

  • 5+ years of experience in Python Development or software engineering.

  • 2+ years of experience managing teams and projects with high attention to details.

  • High energy, fast decision making and ability to quickly switch from macro to micro mode of working.

  • Good grasp of software engineering practices such as code-reusability and modularity.

  • Experience in leading collaborative teams who operate in version control environment using Git practices and repository structure.

  • A can-do teammate. You are willing to roll up your sleeves and do whatever is needed to move projects forward.

  • Excellent communication skills. You can translate and communicate sophisticated ideas to non-technical experts.

  • Intuitive problem-solving and analytical skills.
