Computer Vision and Deep Learning Engineer
Department: Product Design Services 
FLSA Status: Exempt 
Reports to: PDS Operations Manager
Pay Range: $106,800 - $154,800 annually 
Location: Rochester, NY 

The Role: 

D3 Embedded is seeking a skilled Computer Vision and Deep Learning Engineer to develop and implement cutting-edge AI solutions. This role involves designing, training, and optimizing deep learning models for image and video analysis, object detection, and pattern recognition. The ideal candidate has experience with machine learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow), computer vision algorithms, and real-world deployment of AI models. This position requires strong problem-solving skills and collaboration with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and enhance product capabilities. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Research, develop, and integrate CV/AI solutions for perception problems such as object detection, instance segmentation, sensor fusion, pose estimation etc.  
  • Translate product feature requirements to design specifications and devise high-level software architectures to meet requirements and guide design trade-off decisions.  
  • Deploy real-time, optimized CV/AI solutions to embedded and edge platforms.  
  • Own the full life cycle of new products/solutions from proof of concept to integration with other components and teams.  
  • Collaborate with management and technical teams on product strategies  
  • Participate in all phases of the product development cycle including:  
  • requirements definition and architecture  
  • software design and development  
  • implementing software  
  • software/hardware integration  
  • verification and validation, and customer support  
  • Develop & identify tools / methods for better design reuse & process improvement  
  • Participate in design reviews and provide technical oversight  

Additional Responsibilities: 

  • Other duties as assigned 

The Right Person Will Have (Required): 

  • Bachelor of Science or PhD in Computer Vision, Machine/Deep Learning, Computer Science, Computer/Electrical/Software Engineering, or related field.  
  • 0-5 years of experience 
  • Excellent problem solving & troubleshooting skills.  
  • Proficiency in Python and C++  
  • Proficiency with OpenCV  
  • Proficiency with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or related machine learning framework(s)  
  • Experience with fine-tuning and transfer learning AI models  
  • Ability to design end-to-end processing pipelines for custom use cases  
  • Self-Driven personality  
  • Capable of a big picture, system-oriented approach  
  • Solid technical leadership skills  
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills  

The Right Person Will Have (Preferred): 

  • Experience with autonomous/industrial robotic platforms and applications  
  • Experience with embedded and edge processing platforms (Nvidia Jetson devices and TensorRT in particular)  
  • Experience with edge AI accelerators (integration, model conversions, deployment, profiling, etc.)  
  • Knowledge of intrinsic and extrinsic calibration procedures for multi-modal sensor systems  
  • Experience with sensor fusion techniques (calibration, early, mid, late fusion, etc.)  
  • Knowledge of camera optics and computational geometry  
  • Gstreamer experience  
  • Robot Operating System (ROS) experience  
  • Experience with version control systems such as GIT and DVC  
  • Experience with GPU programming frameworks such as OpenCL and CUDA
