How much do voltage multipliers jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 14, 2026, the average hourly pay for voltage multipliers in the United States is $24.45, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $19.95 and $27.16 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are voltage multipliers and how do they work?

Voltage multipliers are electrical circuits that increase (multiply) the input voltage to a higher output voltage using a combination of capacitors and diodes. They are commonly used in applications where a high voltage is needed but only a low current is required, such as in cathode ray tubes, photomultiplier tubes, and some types of power supplies. The most common types include the half-wave and full-wave voltage multipliers, like the Cockcroft-Walton multiplier. These circuits work by charging capacitors in parallel during one part of the AC cycle and connecting them in series during another, effectively stacking the voltages to achieve a much higher output.

What are some common challenges faced by engineers working with voltage multipliers in electronic circuit design?

Engineers working with voltage multipliers often encounter challenges such as managing voltage ripple, ensuring component reliability under high voltage conditions, and minimizing power losses. Additionally, designing for compactness while maintaining safety and efficiency can be demanding, especially in applications with strict space or weight constraints. Collaborative problem-solving with PCB designers, test engineers, and quality assurance teams is frequently required to address these issues and deliver robust solutions.

What is the difference between Voltage Multipliers vs Electrical Test Technicians?

AspectVoltage MultipliersElectrical Test Technicians
Required CredentialsTechnical certifications, electrical knowledgeElectrical certifications, safety training
Work EnvironmentLaboratories, industrial settings, high-voltage areasField sites, laboratories, manufacturing plants
Industry UsagePower supply design, high-voltage testingEquipment testing, troubleshooting, maintenance

Voltage Multipliers focus on designing and implementing circuits to increase voltage levels, often in high-voltage applications. Electrical Test Technicians perform testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment. While both roles require electrical knowledge and safety certifications, Voltage Multipliers are more specialized in circuit design, whereas Electrical Test Technicians focus on testing and diagnostics across various electrical systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Voltage Multiplier Design Engineer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Voltage Multiplier Design Engineer, you need strong knowledge of circuit design, power electronics, and electrical engineering principles, typically backed by a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with simulation software such as SPICE, PCB design tools, and industry standards is essential, as well as experience with testing equipment like oscilloscopes and multimeters. Analytical thinking, problem-solving, and clear communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and troubleshooting complex circuits. These competencies ensure the reliable design and implementation of voltage multiplier systems for various industrial and commercial applications.
