Job description

We are designing the grid of the future! 

EPE is looking to recruit a Senior Engineer with a background in Interconnection or Transmission Planning studies. In this role you will work closely with leadership to provide subject matter expertise both internally through coaching and developing staff as well as externally to our clients.


How you can make an impact:

  • Perform complex interconnection studies including loadflow, short circuit and transient stability across multiple ISOs and Utilities in the Eastern Interconnect & ERCOT. Ideally focusing on SERC, ERCOT MISO or SPP
  • Develop IBR and large load models required for interconnection applications, validate their performance against ISO/Utility requirements and benchmark their response across various software platforms (e.g. PSSE/PSCAD/TSAT).
  • Review ISO and/or Utility interconnection study results, replicate findings and identify errors or alternative mitigations that could impact assigned network upgrades.
  • Support generation, large load and merchant transmission developers navigate interconnection processes across the Eastern Interconnect.
  • Collaborate with other team members on interconnection related studies and stay up to date with industry trends and regulatory changes.
  • Passionate about solving difficult technical problems, providing innovative solutions and taking ownership of the solutions provided.
  • Support the development of new products and services.
  • Experience leveraging AI and automation tools responsibly to improve quality, productivity and innovation under experience (bring your passion section. 
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Bring your passion, here's what’s needed:

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in the electric energy industry.
  • Experience in IBR modelling, transmission planning and/or interconnection studies and processes.
  • Strong understanding of FERC, NERC and ISO interconnection requirements and standards.
  • In-depth knowledge of at least one but preferably several of the following software packages: PSSE, TARA, PSLF, PowerWorld. ASPEN and PSCAD.
  • Experience leveraging AI and automation tools responsibly to improve quality, productivity and innovation

Beneficial Experience

  • Direct experience working at an ISO/Utility or on behalf of these entities as a consultant.
  • Experience with large-load interconnection studies and modelling.
  • Automation experience (Python, C#, SQL).
