We are looking for an Assembler to join our tam in Chicago heights, Illinois.


PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Assembler is responsible for grinding, welding, fitting, and assembling all steel, iron, and manganese rail points for track work related products to the specifications provided by engineering.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Assembler is part of a team who is responsible for assembling all steel, iron, manganese components and switch points for track work related products to the specifications provided by our customers and engineering.

Task and Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate overhead cranes and forklift trucks.
  • Build specialty track assemblies for the railroads.
  • Assemble various turnout components such as switch points, frogs, plates, etc.
  • Ability to operate hand tools and power tools, ie: sledgehammers, pry bars, special track installation tools.
  • Able to work with a team environment with little supervision.
  • Adhere to Nortrak’s Safety, Quality and Environmental Procedures, Practices and Policies.
  • Routine cleanup of work area.
  • Able to work outside in all weather conditions year-round.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements (e.g. education, experience, skills and desired competencies)

  • High School graduate or GED preferred but not required.
  • Forklift and Crane certification preferred (will be certified in house if needed).
  • Ability to read work orders, ITP’s, blueprints, rulers and tape measures.
  • Basic mathematical calculation experience in adding and subtracting whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
  • Experience in Railroad Industry is a plus but not required.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and pushing, pulling, or lifting objects for the duration of your required schedule shift.
  • Use hands and arms to operate tools, handle materials, and reach for the duration of your required scheduled shift.
  • Regularly lift and carry 30–35 pounds; occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Required vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Hearing abilities necessary to perform job tasks safely and effectively.
