Job Title: Virtualization Engineer
Location: Harrisburg, PA (Onsite)
Duration: Long-Term Contract

Position Summary:
The Virtualization Engineer is responsible for the architecture, implementation, optimization, and lifecycle management of the enterprise VMware virtualization environment. This role serves as a subject matter expert across the full VMware ecosystem, ensuring high availability, performance, security, and scalability of virtualized compute, storage, and networking platforms. The ideal candidate has extensive hands‑on experience with VMware’s core infrastructure products and demonstrates strong leadership, analytical, and problem‑solving capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, deploy, and maintain VMware vSphere clusters, ESXi hosts, and related core virtualization infrastructure.
  • Manage and optimize vCenter Server operations, templates, host profiles, and distributed configurations.
  • Implement and support VMware vSAN, including storage policy design, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and capacity planning.
  • Architect and maintain VMware NSX‑T networking and security components, including micro‑segmentation.
  • Administer VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) and integrated components, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture standards.
  • Manage lifecycle operations using VMware Lifecycle Manager (vLCM), including upgrades, patching, and compliance management.
  • Implement automation and orchestration using tools such as VMware Aria (vRealize) Automation, Orchestrator, and PowerCLI.
  • Monitor system performance, conduct root‑cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to ensure optimal environment stability.
  • Maintain security compliance across virtualized environments, including access controls, hardening, and auditing.
  • Collaborate with storage, networking, security, and application teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Develop and maintain architectural documentation, standard operating procedures, and disaster recovery runbooks.
  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers and participate in on‑call support rotations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Extensive hands‑on experience with VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter in large‑scale enterprise environments.
  • Strong expertise in one or more advanced VMware components such as vSAN, NSX‑T, VCF, or VMware Aria Suite.
  • Proficiency with PowerShell/PowerCLI automation.
  • Deep understanding of enterprise compute, storage, and network architectures.
  • Experience with capacity planning, performance tuning, and lifecycle management.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and work independently with minimal supervision.
