Responsibilities:

The Cybersecurity Systems Administrator provides enterprise system, network, and cybersecurity support to the Surface Combat Systems Training Command (SCSTC) and Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Dahlgren Division. This role ensures reliable, secure, and effective operation of government networks, training systems, and cloudhosted mission applications. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience supporting Navy training environments, combat systems labs, or RDT&E networks, and is familiar with Navy cybersecurity compliance (RMF), network defenseindepth, and cloud modernization efforts aligned to Fleet operations.

  • Provide system and network administration for SCSTC/NSWC Dahlgren training systems, simulation environments, and development networks.
  • Maintain LAN/WAN infrastructure supporting classified and unclassified environments (NIPR/SIPR).
  • Manage system performance, availability, and security for mission systems and instructional technology assets.
  • Support virtualization environments commonly used in test labs and integrated combat system training suites.
  • Implement DoD and DON cybersecurity policies, RMF controls, and security hardening across systems and networks.
  • Lead troubleshooting, diagnostics, and service restoration for training and testing systems.
  • Support cloud adoption initiatives and workload migration aligned with Navy cloud strategies.
  • Provide technical expertise during configuration changes, lifecycle upgrades, and technology refresh efforts.
  • Collaborate with engineers, instructors, and cybersecurity personnel across SCSTC, NSWC Dahlgren, and Fleet stakeholders.

Experience Requirements:

Network Infrastructure:
Experience supporting DoD/Navy LAN/WAN environments (classified/unclassified); strong knowledge of TCP/IP, OSI, VPNs, DHCP/DNS, network diagnostics, and virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V).

Security Expertise (DoD/Navy):
Hands-on experience with RMF, eMASS, STIGs, POA&M management, system hardening, firewalls, encryption, and federal data protection standards (PII/PCI/PHI).

System Administration:
Administration of Windows/Linux server and client systems in DoD environments, including troubleshooting, patching, backups, configuration management, and accreditation support.

Cloud Computing:
Experience with DoD cloud models (SaaS, IaaS, PaaS) and environments such as AWS GovCloud or Azure Government, including hybrid/cloud migration support.

Preferred Qualifications

  • DoD 8570/8140 certifications (Security+ CE, CySA+, CASP+, CISSP, CCNA, etc.)
  • Experience supporting SCSTC, NSWC, NAVSEA, or other Warfare Center divisions
  • Familiarity with Navy Combat Systems training environments (Aegis, SSDS, GOTS/COTS simulators)
  • Knowledge of RDT&E, lab environments, or systems integration facilities
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact with military, civilian, and contractor personnel.
