How much do vlsi jobs pay per hour?
What is a VLSI?
A VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration) job involves designing, verifying, and testing integrated circuits (ICs) that contain millions to billions of transistors. Engineers in this field work on chip architecture, logic design, physical design, and semiconductor fabrication. Key roles include Front-end Design Engineer, Verification Engineer, and Physical Design Engineer. The job requires expertise in hardware description languages (HDLs) like Verilog and VHDL, as well as tools for simulation and synthesis. VLSI professionals are in high demand in industries like consumer electronics, telecommunications, and automotive technology.
What are the typical responsibilities of a VLSI engineer?
VLSI engineers are typically involved in designing, verifying, and optimizing integrated circuits and system-on-chip solutions. Daily tasks may include schematic capture, RTL coding, simulations, and running verification or validation tests using industry-standard EDA tools. Collaboration with other team members—such as design, test, and verification engineers—is common, and clear communication is key to meeting project goals and deadlines. Depending on the project's phase, VLSI engineers may also participate in debugging, design reviews, and documentation, offering a well-rounded and dynamic day-to-day experience.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the VLSI position?
To thrive in a VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration) role, you need a strong background in electrical or electronics engineering, digital and analog circuit design, and expertise in semiconductor fundamentals. Proficiency with EDA tools such as Cadence, Synopsys, or Mentor Graphics, along with familiarity with hardware description languages like Verilog or VHDL, is critical; relevant certifications add value. Strong analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and effective teamwork and communication capabilities help you excel in collaborative and fast-paced project environments. These skills and qualities are vital for ensuring robust, innovative chip designs and seamless integration within multidisciplinary teams.

Job description
NVIDIA is leading the way in groundbreaking developments in Artificial Intelligence, High-Performance Computing and Visualization. The GPU, our invention, serves as the visual cortex of modern computers and is at the heart of our products and services. Our work opens up new universes to explore, enables outstanding creativity and discovery, and powers what were once science fiction inventions from artificial intelligence to autonomous cars. NVIDIA is looking for extraordinary people like you to help us accelerate the next wave of artificial intelligence.
We serve as the central program management function for NVIDIA's VLSI Engineering organization, providing the structure and insight needed to deliver world-class silicon. We align roadmaps across all silicon product lines, enabling technical leads to focus on engineering while we accelerate end-to-end execution. Through the integration of domain-specific workflows and intelligent infrastructure, we deliver automated schedule tracking, resource planning, and program health visibility across the full lifecycle-from Arch/RTL handoff through silicon bring-up and productization. We are seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager to serve as a pivotal horizontal lead, orchestrating the end-to-end execution of our most ambitious silicon development projects.
What You'll be Doing:
As a Senior TPM, you would be responsible for the top-level silicon schedules and help manage complex dependencies across multidisciplinary teams to meet SOL (Speed of Light) schedules.
Align cross-functional program schedules into a single, integrated source of truth and maintain roadmap synchronization
Act as the primary liaison between VLSI and partners in ASIC, Architecture, Software, Systems and Operations to handle input/output dependencies at the highest level
Maintain Plan of Record (POR) ensuring all scope and schedule changes are documented and communicated
Proactively identify risks and critical path, develop mitigation strategies and advance issues to leadership
Provide regular updates on program status, highlighting challenges and proposing options to facilitate informed decision-making
Quantify Program Health through real-time KPIs and metrics
Continuously improve processes by taking learnings from prior programs, optimize workflows to maintain highest quality deliverables
What We Need to See:
BS in Engineering or Applied Sciences or equivalent experience (Masters preferred)
8+ years of overall experience in semiconductor design or datacenter/consumer electronics (6+yrs if Masters), with minimum 3+ years of direct Technical Program Management experience
Strong experience across all stages of the ASIC/SoC development from architecture to productization
Demonstrate critical thinking with the ability to synthesize complex technical data into actionable project plans
Proficient in leading rapid development cycles and embracing change, maintaining flexibility and composure in uncertain situations
Ability to align different teams on a unified execution path and influence technical trade-offs.
Outstanding negotiation and presentation skills; ability to influence senior engineering staff without direct authority.
Ways to stand out from the crowd:
Direct background in pre-silicon development or hardware validation
Expertise in Smartsheet for building project trackers and dashboards
Proficiency in Python to automate data-driven project management tasks
