Job Summary

Battelle has been trusted by government clients to solve some of the world's hardest security problems. We work in small agile teams to push the bounds of computing technology. Our high-powered labs include specialized software and hardware, so our engineers have everything they need to invent new Cyber and Risk Assessment solutions.
Battelle's Advanced Microsystem Solutions group is seeking an experienced System Security Engineer to support our Analytics and Digital Engineering team.
As a System Security Engineer on the Analytics and Digital Engineering team, you will spend your day working with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to identify security requirements, assess system threats and vulnerabilities, and develop security mitigations for mission-critical systems. This role also provides leadership and architecture support to the junior members of the team as we develop our cutting-edge risk assessment tools. Our projects are highly varied, supporting a breadth of technical domains, offering the chance support customers across the USG and commercial spaces.
This position will be based out of Battelle offices in Columbus, OH or Beavercreek, OH.
Responsibilities
  • You will lead teams to develop system security engineering approaches and tools, ensuring security considerations are integrated into program decisions from concept through deployment.
  • You will lead system security engineering teams to perform security analysis and assessments leveraging our advanced risk modeling tools, helping the team understand requirements, scope, and vision, and communicating security risks, assurance impacts, and remediation recommendations to stakeholders.
  • You will work with internal and external customers to understand and set goals and expectations and translate and communicate those goals and expectations to the team.
  • You will provide technical vision by monitoring defense acquisition, digital engineering, and cybersecurity trends, and shaping research investments, methodologies, and project execution approaches that position Battelle to meet future customer challenges
  • You will collaborate with Subject Matter Experts from various scientific and electronics fields to inform custom solutions across domains.

Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field of study and (5) years of experience; or a Master's degree in a relevant field and (3) years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education/experience in a relevant.
  • Effective and consistent communication with customers and teammates at all stages of the system lifecycle.
  • Experience with microelectronic systems design and familiar with EDA tools and concepts (ex. Cadence and VLSI circuits)
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and standards such as NIST SP 800-53, DAF SSECG, and MITRE ATT&CK
  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A self-starter that can effectively drive the development of projects from initial concept through implementation.
  • Understanding of secure system architecture principles, defense-in-depth strategies, zero trust concepts, and secure design patterns.
  • Ability to maintain software using Git (or other similar version control systems).
  • Experience automating tasks using Python, Bash, PowerShell and Batch Scripts.
  • Passion and drive to continuously improve your skill set.
  • Experience performing threat modeling, attack surface analysis, cybersecurity risk assessments, and vulnerability analysis for cyber-physical systems.
  • Exceptional technical writing and verbal communication skills and experience or a willingness to support proposals, and progress reports.
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams

Compensation Data
Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $110,000 - $140,000, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications. Salary ranges may vary based on geographic location and market conditions.
