The primary purpose of the R&D Technician role is to execute experiments in support of R&D and/or non-R&D customers. This role is primarily daylight hours in a professional office & laboratory setting with occasional travel requirements to other Vitro facilities within the US and Mexico. Overtime may be required in support of projects.
The primary work location for this role will be in the laboratory environment at Vitro Glass Technology Center. The incumbent may, on occasion, be required to travel to various manufacturing facilities in the United States and Mexico to provide support.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure proper safety attitudes, procedures and housekeeping is maintained on all work programs; conduct work in a manner that protects self, colleagues, the environment, and safety of the community
  • Organize procedures to generate and collect data. Independently analyze operations, make calculations, and record test results
  • Establish requirements for quality processes for materials and services to be delivered
  • Perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment
  • Perform routine testing following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Process and test samples, interpret and document test results
  • Assist in interpretation of materials, present information in formal or informal settings and make recommendations when appropriate
  • Assist in training and instruction of personnel

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or 4+ years of relevant laboratory experience
  • Attention to detail, documentation, planning and organization
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Adherence to safe work practices in compliance with all environmental, health, safety and security protocol
  • Proficient computer skills (MS Office software)
  • Flexibility to perform/participate in other duties as assigned
