Job description

Overview

With oversight from the AVP of Visual Merchandising & Store Environment, the Visual Director is responsible for ensuring the implementation and execution of all visual merchandising creative direction and maintaining unparalleled environmental standards of excellence at the New York Flagship. The Visual Director is accountable for delivering the ultimate luxury customer experience through dynamic team management, talent development, and timeline oversight for all New York related initiatives, launches, and brand partnerships.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the New York Flagship is in compliance with corporate standards and that creative direction is executed at an aspirational level specific to the flagship store.
  • Drive daily excellence across all VM teams and maintain the Saks Fifth Avenue brand image and messaging.
  • Lead visual managers in timely execution of fashion trends, launches, corporate projects, store merchandising, and visual standards.
  • Drive accountability in meeting budget targets and financial plans on a monthly basis.
  • Conduct weekly workload planning meetings with the NY VM team, creating concrete action plans and communication touchpoints for short- and long-term objectives.
  • Develop talent at exempt and hourly levels through effective coaching and timely feedback.
  • Create succession plans for visual managers and staff by identifying talent, assessing abilities, and providing comprehensive growth plans.
  • Partner with merchandise division leaders to provide timely support to drive alignment and results.
  • Manage New York Flagship calendar complexities, avoiding overscheduling and brand partner conflicts.
  • Present with authority and presence to internal and external audiences.
  • Review all merchandising strategies by floor, partnering vertically with all internal teams to effect change.
  • Remain flexible, pivoting between multiple priorities and projects while staying deadline-oriented.
Qualifications
  • 5โ€‘10 years of management experience with a proven track record of leading independent thinkers to successful end results.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic and creative visual merchandising.
  • Strong leadership in directing others, ideally in a multiโ€‘unit environment.
  • Advanced visual merchandising knowledge and understanding of how visual merchandising supports the customer experience.
  • Ability to learn applications and software independently to enhance work efficiencies (Google and Adobe suites, rendering development).
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree required.
  • Deeply creative and driven leadership with artistic prowess and organizational vision.
  • Strong teamโ€‘building, morale, and openโ€‘dialogue skills.
  • Decisive, able to delegate effectively, and drive for positive outcomes through objective reasoning.
  • Business acumen and the ability to bridge all store teams and stakeholders.
  • Creative problemโ€‘solving and continuous improvement mindset.

Salary & Compensation

Base salary ranges from $110,000.00 to $130,000.00 annually, with possible bonuses. Compensation may be influenced by market, skills, experience, and other qualifications.
