Description:

The Production Supervisor plays a key leadership role in the daily operations of Mountain Home Thrift Store by overseeing donation processing, production workflow, inventory management, volunteer engagement, and staff support. This position helps ensure that donated goods are efficiently processed and prepared for sale while fostering a positive, ministry-focused environment for customers, donors, volunteers, and staff. The Production Supervisor serves as a leader within the production area and provides operational support in the absence of the Retail Manager.


Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Support
  • Oversee the donation production process to ensure efficiency, productivity, and quality standards are met.
  • Provide direction and leadership to production staff, volunteers, and interns.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for individual and group volunteers, ensuring a positive and meaningful volunteer experience.
  • Assist with training new employees and volunteers in safe and effective production processes.
  • Support daily staffing needs by helping coordinate schedules, arranging coverage, and assigning work areas.
  • Attend and observe staff supervision meetings with the General Manager and Retail Manager.
  • Serve as the lead production contact and provide operational leadership in the absence of the Retail Manager.
  • Assist with store opening and closing procedures as a keyholder.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service and treat donors and customers as valued partners in the ministry.
  • Identify challenges and implement effective solutions to support store operations.
  • Complete additional projects and assignments as requested.
Retail & Inventory Management
  • Sort, evaluate, and price donated merchandise for resale.
  • Oversee inventory management, including clothing bales, housewares, and specialty merchandise.
  • Assist in maintaining attractive, organized, and well-stocked sales areas.
  • Submit weekly supply inventories and purchasing requests to the General Manager.
  • Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system and assist with register operations when needed.
  • Reconcile cash tills accurately and according to established procedures.
Safety & Facility Operations
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) regulations and store safety standards.
  • Assist with recycling operations, including baler operation and truck loading activities.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work environments in production areas, sales floors, vehicles, and surrounding grounds.
  • Assist customers with loading furniture and other purchased items.
  • Promote a culture of safety, stewardship, and accountability throughout all operations.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to the Christian mission and values of Black Mountain Home.
  • Previous leadership, retail, warehouse, production, or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and work effectively with employees, volunteers, and interns.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer and POS system experience preferred.
  • Ability to lift, move, and handle merchandise safely, including furniture and donated goods.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be flexible with work schedule - Thrift Store hours are Tuesday - Friday 10am - 5:30pm; Saturdays 10am-4pm
