Under general supervision, the Audio Visual Associate serves in a variety of capacities as a member of the Centre customer service team, to promote the efficient flow of daily activities at the City's conference/banquet facility; performs duties in several specialized areas, functioning as an event attendant, audio-visual technician and liaison with city personnel for activities and functions. Incumbents' hours will vary per week, depending on the needs of the department. This position may work a maximum of 28 hours per week if assigned, work hours may include nights, weekend and holidays. This is an at-will position and incumbents serve at the pleasure of the City Manager or designee.
Examples of Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to the following: provides technical audio-visual services to clients at The Centre and other City facilities; works a variety of shifts (scheduled weekly) including day, evening, weekend and holidays; designs and coordinates room layouts; performs physical set-up and breaks down of meeting and banquet rooms; compiles handwritten and computer reports concerning facility usage; coordinates closely with catering staff, city departments and other clients to assist in the planning and executing of events; serves as event technician for functions and activities such as city council and commission meetings, city-sponsored functions, recreational activities, banquets, weddings, and other events as assigned; opens and closes the facility when assigned; serves as the on-duty representative when scheduled for evening or weekend hours; and works on special projects.
Qualifications
Education & Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying, such as one year of work experience operating audio-visual equipment, in a field requiring a high level of customer service contact. Hospitality service experience is highly desirable.
License: Possession of a valid Class "C" Operator's license issued by the California State Department of Motor Vehicles and a good driving record.
Knowledge of: The hospitality service industry; operation and maintenance of audio-visual equipment such as: digital & analog audio mixing boards, basic EQ settings, microphones & speaker systems, video projectors, web cameras, stage lighting systems, flat screen TV's, Mac & PC laptop computers; basic lighting principles; microphone types and mic placement; Power Point software, virtual meeting software, and software pertinent to audio-visual systems; word processing and spreadsheet business software; and principles and practices of customer service and workplace safety.
Skills & Abilities to: Assist in the planning, organizing and implementation of all operations of a busy conference and banquet facility; identify and troubleshoot minor equipment malfunctions; communicate effectively orally and in writing; perform tasks involving heavy lifting; identify client needs; establish and maintain effective work relationships with public officials, city staff, community members and City facility customers; work in a team environment; and ability to meet strict deadlines when preparing for events.
Physical and Mental Demands: Physical demands include heavy lifting up to 50 pounds individually; pushing, pulling, bending, climbing, walking and carrying; hand use and dexterity to operate computer and audio-visual equipment; ability to walk and/or stand for long periods of time; see and hear within normal ranges to set up and monitor stage lighting and sound systems; exposure to high volume levels working around speaker systems; ability to work on ladders at high elevations and cramped positions; exposure to dirt and dust; and work varied shifts and irregular work hours.

PHYSICAL EXAMINATION: Employment offers are conditional, based upon the successful completion of a medical examination which includes drug and alcohol screening for safety-sensitive positions. Physicals are performed by the City's designated physician at the City's expense. Candidates are cautioned not to quit their jobs or give notice to their current employer until they are determined to be medically qualified.
TUBERCULOSIS TESTING: Candidates selected to work in a position requiring contact with children must submit a certificate or notice documenting that within the last two years they have been examined and found to be free of communicable tuberculosis. The certificate or notice must be signed by a licensed examining physician or public health agency.
POSSESSION OF A VALID CALIFORNIA DRIVER'S LICENSE: Employees in classifications requiring possession of a valid California driver's license will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice program, which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects the driving record.
